Summer Exchange Programs
The summer semester can be the most convenient time to study abroad: fewer courses are offered on UNF's campus, and it can be nice to escape the Jacksonville heat! Our summer study abroad programs allow students to take six credit hours at our partner institutions worldwide. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a Summer A and a Summer B program in order to earn up to 12 credits and spend more time immersed in other cultures.
Contact us for more information or visit us in Coggin College of Business (Bldg. 42), Room 1104.
Summer 2024 applications are open August 28 to March 15 (or until full).

Summer Exchange Application Process
We are glad you plan to study abroad this summer! Our aim is to make your study abroad experience as smooth as possible so you can focus on academics and experiential learning. If you have questions about the application process, contact us at any time.
How to Apply
- Apply for or renew your passport. U.S. passport processing time is currently about 12-16 weeks, so apply today.
- Passports must be valid for at least six months after the return date of your study abroad program.
- If you don't have a passport yet, you can still submit an application.
- (Optional) Schedule an appointment with a Coggin Study Abroad Advisor to discuss classes and options.
- Review the Coggin Study Abroad Agreement.
- Complete the Coggin Study Abroad 2024 Application.
- Complete the Learning Agreement.
- Review how to complete this document below. It can be completed during Step 2 above, or after your application has been submitted.
Once you have submitted your application, Coggin Study Abroad will follow up regarding your next steps.
How to Complete the Learning Agreement
The Learning Agreement ensures that you know exactly how your courses from abroad will transfer back to UNF and your college before your study abroad begins. The form can be signed manually or digitally, but it does require a conversation with your Academic Advisor or your Coggin Study Abroad Advisor. You will not be officially accepted into a summer program until your learning agreement has been completed.
- Refer to your summer study abroad program's webpage to review the courses you may choose from.
- If classes offered abroad change later on, Coggin Study Abroad will work with you to update your Learning Agreement as necessary.
- With your advisor, enter each course you plan to take abroad and how it will count toward your major.
- Be sure you have completed, or will have completed, the necessary prerequisites for your courses abroad before your program begins.
- Make sure that both you and your advisor sign the form.
- Save a scanned copy to upload into your Coggin Study Abroad 2024 Application (How to Apply, Step 4. above), or email it to coggin.abroad@unf.edu.
Payment Process
About the Student Cost
Each summer study abroad has costs associated with the services that are part of the program, including student lodging, business and/or cultural visits and excursions, entry fees, international health insurance, etc. Students are responsible for paying these costs directly to the partner school or the company/organization providing the service. Sometimes this is completed via credit card, sometimes via international wire transfer. Students will receive instructions from their host institution regarding these costs and the best way to pay them.
UNF Tuition and Fees
Students pay UNF for their summer tuition and fees instead of paying tuition to their host university. This payment process is handled the same way as if the student were staying at UNF for the summer term. See the UNF Controller's Office webpage for tuition and fees for more information. Students may also contact UNF Student Financial Services in Hicks Hall.
Mandatory Pre-Departure and Re-Entry Sessions
Students who participate in Coggin Summer Exchange Programs are required to attend pre-departure and re-entry sessions that bookend their independent study abroad experiences. The pre-departure orientations cover topics such as academics abroad, grade/credit transfer, financial aid, scholarships, safety, intercultural adaptation, logistics, and travel tips. Upon return, the re-entry workshop address reverse culture shock, how to identify competencies, adding study abroad to a resume, and leveraging study abroad experiences during job or graduate school applications. These mandatory session take place on the following dates:
- Friday, March 29, 2024 (9 AM-12 PM)
- Friday, April 19, 2024 (1 PM-4 PM)
- Friday, September TBD, 2024 (time TBD)
