Mission, Vision, Values

To educate students in business through accredited degree programs by having both students and faculty engage in scholarly activities for the discovery and application of knowledge.

The Coggin College of Business aspires to be the institution of first choice for business education, serving North Florida with top quality faculty excelling in teaching and scholarship, and sharing with students their passion for life-long discovery and community service.

Coggin College staff, students, and faculty work together in a learning community characterized by civility, mutual respect, and open, honest communication.

The distinctiveness of our learning community is exemplified by the values that we consider most important. Specifically, we value:

  • faculty-student interaction of the highest quality;
  • global perspective, as an essential aspect of relevant business education; and
  • commitment to and enthusiasm for continuous learning.

Our faculty and staff embrace these values and encourage our students to do the same. As our students observe professional interactions among faculty, staff and their peers, they are provided with behavioral models to emulate.

Our goal is to live and share these values so that student learning in the Coggin College, which could be limited to receiving information, instead becomes transformational learning. That is, it results in a positive shift in the way students think, view themselves, and view the world around them.

This transformational learning takes place in our classrooms and in experiential learning opportunities such as study abroad; internships; participation in student organizations; involvement in research projects with our faculty; and professional interactions with our staff.

We expect that students who are engaged in the Coggin College learning community will obtain high-quality positions upon graduation and have successful careers as business professionals. As alumni, they become the "Brand" of the Coggin College.

Business Degree Programs

Business professionals have appropriate knowledge and understanding of the functional areas of business and how they are integrated in the modern organization. They have the skills and perspectives essential for success - whether they apply their expertise in the for-profit, governmental or non-profit environments. The students we educate and develop into business professionals have significant variety, and many are non-traditional.

The Bachelor of Business Administration program has been designed for both full-time and part-time students holding high school diplomas, including many students who require night courses, as well as transfer students from the State of Florida community college system. Currently, students are primarily drawn from the Northeast Florida region, although the geographic scope is increasingly extending throughout Florida, and nationally as well as internationally.

The Master of Business Administration and Master of Accountancy programs are primarily evening programs designed for part-time students holding bachelors degrees in business as well as other disciplines. The majority of students are already employed in the Northeast Florida region, and most require or prefer the flexibility of night courses or the ability to take a small number of courses at a time.

The GlobalMBA program has been designed for full-time students who have the flexibility and desire to study abroad in multiple institutions and countries over the course of the program, and who desire to pursue their graduate education in an international cohort environment. Students are typically drawn from a larger geographic base than the MBA or MAcc programs.

Accredited Degree Programs

Coggin College undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Less than 5% of business schools world-wide have earned AACSB accreditation. Our undergraduate and master's programs in accounting have earned AACSB's separate accounting accreditation (less than 1% of the world's business schools have achieved both business and accounting accreditation).

The University of North Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of the University of North Florida. Individual contact to the Commission on Colleges about the University of North Florida accreditation status should occur only if there is evidence that appears to support significant noncompliance with a requirement or standard.

In addition to these accreditations, Coggin College programs prepare students to earn professional certifications relevant to their discipline.
