Hicks Honors College
The Hicks Honors College at the University of North Florida provides students an individualized, small college experience within a large university setting, creating and supporting extraordinary opportunities for talented, motivated students. Averaging around twenty students, Honors classes emphasize experiential learning in interdisciplinary settings. Our goal is to build a community of learners who have the power to take their knowledge outside the classroom, to apply it in the lab, in business, and in the public sphere, through research, internships, and servant leadership. The Hicks Honors College supports leadership and experiential learning opportunities through high-impact curriculum and scholarships and fellowships that fund study abroad, internships, and undergraduate research.
What does it mean to be a UNF Honors student? It means you are motivated to make the most of your time and talent. It means learning to think critically, exploring your interests, and building your resumé for grad school or a career while still in college. It means working with professors who know your name. It means traveling to other countries and learning to understand other cultures. It means being part of a tight-knit community of peers in which students from different backgrounds and majors communicate and collaborate, where future nurses and doctors, artists, engineers, musicians, teachers, lawyers, leaders, researchers, and entrepreneurs learn to work together, as they do in the real world. It means being supported by faculty who understand that the most meaningful education combines fundamental skills and knowledge with experiential learning and higher-order critical thinking. Our classes offer opportunities for real discussion, serious thought, hands-on projects, original research, and other activities that take learning beyond the classroom.
