Dual Enrollment
Dual Enrollment
Students wishing to apply to the UNF Dual Enrollment program must be approved by high school or home school officials. Eligibility for participation is set by written agreement between UNF and select school districts and private schools as well as with home education students and their guardians.
Dual enrollment students are not eligible for UNF Admissions scholarships, grants, or financial aid.
All dual enrollment courses taken through UNF must be approved by the appropriate school officials. Public school, private school, and home education students planning to participate in dual enrollment should do so after consultation with their high school counselor or home education administrator to ensure that the courses meet at least one of the following criteria:
-
UNF general education requirements,
-
Prerequisite or lower-division requirements for the student's intended major, and/or
-
Substitution or elective hours in the student's intended major
In addition, comparable high school courses should be unavailable at the applicant's secondary institution and the university must have space available in the requested class(es). Per Florida Statute 1007.271, all dual enrollment courses must be applied toward the student's high school graduation requirements.
Eligibility
All applications and materials must be received before the posted admissions deadlines in the Dual Enrollment section of the UNF Application Deadline webpage.
Dual enrollment applications for public or private school applicants must include:
-
an online application declaring for which courses the student is applying,
-
an official and current high school transcript reflecting a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA or higher,
-
official ACT, PERT, SAT, CLT or Next-Gen Accuplacer scores taken within the last two years (if not reflected on the high school transcript),
-
the completed High School Signature page indicating the approved course(s) for which the student is applying, signed by the high school counselor, the student, and the student's parent or guardian.
-
A dual enrollment agreement between UNF and the public school district or private school must already be on file to be eligible for dual enrollment.
Dual enrollment applications for home education applicants must include:
-
an online application declaring for which courses the student is applying,
-
official ACT, PERT, SAT, CLT or Next-Gen Accuplacer scores taken within the last two years (if not reflected on the high school transcript),
-
a signed Dual Enrollment Articulation Agreement with each page initialed by the parent/guardian and student,
-
the completed Home Education Signature page indicating the approved course(s) for which the student is applying, signed by the student and the student’s parent/guardian.
-
A home education transcript (optional).
Continued participation is subject to program requirements as stated in the dual enrollment articulation agreement. A new signature page is required by the posted application deadline for each semester a student wishes to participate.
The UNF Dual Enrollment Program complies with Florida Statute 1002.41, which regulates home education programs.
Registration
Dual enrollment courses are limited, and registration is offered on a space-available basis. Students will be administratively registered in the courses listed on the application, up to a maximum of 7 credits, on the business day before the semester begins. Students will not be registered into all courses listed on their application if the total credits exceeds 7 hours. Course substitutions are permitted in cases where course sections are closed or cancelled. In such a case, students will need to submit a new signature page that includes the desired course with counselor and parent signatures.
High school students may not make registration changes. The high school counselor or home education parent/guardian must notify UNF of requests to make registration changes, including withdrawals. Such requests will be processed administratively and as allowable. Withdrawal requests after the Add/Drop deadline will result in a "W" grade for the course(s). A student who receives a “W” grade on a course may be ineligible to continue enrolling in dual enrollment courses. That decision lies with student’s high school and/or school board.
Passing scores on an appropriate placement assessment may be required for math, English, science, or language courses. Any pre- or co-requisites must be satisfied. In compliance with State regulations, adult education instruction, developmental education, and physical education courses are ineligible for dual enrollment.
UNF does not assign academic advisors for dual enrollment students and may not advise students on which courses to take. Advising, progress monitoring, and oversight of high school graduation requirements are the responsibility of the high school counselor or home education parent.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition and most fees are waived for Dual Enrollment students taking courses at UNF that can also be used to meet high school graduation requirements. Certain fees such as parking passes and fines are not covered. Instructional materials shall be made available to dual enrollment students free of charge and become the property of the institution's board against which the purchase is charged.
