Dual Enrollment

Eligible high school students may accumulate up to 6 college credits per semester in fall and spring through a non-traditional program: dual enrollment. Students wishing to apply to this program must be approved by appropriate high school or home school officials. Eligibility for participation is set by a written agreement between UNF and the school district, private school, or home education student and parent or legal guardian.

Dual enrollment students are not eligible for UNF Admissions scholarships or financial aid.

A limited number of dual enrollment courses are available in the fall and spring semesters. UNF does not offer dual enrollment in the summer semester. All dual enrollment courses taken through UNF must be approved by the appropriate school officials. Public school, private school, and home education students planning to participate in dual enrollment should do so in close consultation with their high school counselor or home education administrator to ensure that the courses meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. UNF general education requirements,
  2. prerequisite or lower-division requirements for the student's intended major, and/or
  3. substitution or elective hours in the student's intended major

In addition, comparable high school courses should be unavailable at the applicant's secondary institution and the university must have space available in the requested class(es). Per Florida Statute 1007.271, all dual enrollment courses must be applied toward the student's high school graduation requirements.

Eligibility

All applications and materials must be received before the posted admissions deadlines in the Dual Enrollment section of the UNF Application Deadline webpage. Dual enrollment admission is only valid for one semester. A new application is required for each semester a student wishes to participate in dual enrollment. Continued participation is subject to program requirements as stated in the dual enrollment articulation agreement.

Dual enrollment applications for public or private school applicants must include:

  • an online application declaring for which courses the student is applying,
  • an official and current high school transcript reflecting a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA or higher,
  • official ACT, PERT, SAT, CLT or Next-Gen Accuplacer scores taken within the last two years (if not reflected on the high school transcript),
  • the completed High School Signature page indicating the approved course(s) for which the student is applying, signed by the high school counselor, the student, and the student's parent or guardian.

NOTE: a dual enrollment agreement between UNF and the public school district or private school must already be on file in order to be eligible for dual enrollment.

Dual enrollment applications for home education applicants must include:

  • an online application declaring for which courses the student is applying,
  • official ACT, PERT, SAT, CLT or Next-Gen Accuplacer scores taken within the last two years (if not reflected on the high school transcript),
  • a signed Dual Enrollment Articulation Agreement with each page initialed by the parent/guardian and student,
  • the completed High School Signature page indicating the approved course(s) for which the student is applying, signed by the high school counselor, the student, and the student's parent or guardian.
  • A home education transcript (optional).

Note: the Dual Enrollment Program complies with Florida Statute 1002.41, which regulates home education programs.

Registration

Dual enrollment courses are limited, and registration is offered on a space-available basis during the fall and spring semesters. Students will be administratively registered in the courses listed on the application, up to a maximum of 6 credits, on the business day before the semester begins. Students will not be registered into all courses listed on their application if the total credit exceed 6 hours. Course substitutions are not permitted in cases where course sections are closed or cancelled.

High school students may not make registration changes. The high school counselor or home education parent/guardian must notify UNF of requests to make registration changes, including withdrawals. Such requests will be processed administratively and as allowable.

Passing scores on an appropriate placement assessment may be required for math, English, science, or language courses. Any pre- or co-requisites must be satisfied. In compliance with State regulations, adult education instruction, developmental education, and physical education courses are ineligible for dual enrollment.

UNF may not advise dual enrollment students on which courses to take. Advising, progress monitoring, and oversight of high school graduation requirements are the responsibility of the high school counselor or home education parent.

NOTE: Dual enrollment is not offered in summer semesters.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and most fees are waived for Dual Enrollment students taking courses at UNF that can also be used to meet high school graduation requirements. Certain fees such as parking passes and fines are not covered. Instructional materials shall be made available to dual enrollment students free of charge and become the property of the institution's board against which the purchase is charged.
