Degree: Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) Concentration: Humanities and Arts 2025-2026

The Bachelor of Integrative General Studies (BGS) is an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program that is individualized across students. Students must have a minimum of 60 credits to declare the BGS major. Students must complete two core courses, and other applicable university graduation requirements (e.g., 120 hours, 48 upper division, general education, Foreign Language). There can be no course crossover between concentration courses and a minor (minor not required)

Major Requirements (4-6 Credits)

Grades of C or higher are required in all Major Requirements.

IDS3053 Introduction to Interdisciplinary Inquiry or similar inquiry course, if approved by the program director (3 Credits)

At the end of their program, students will complete a capstone experience (IDS4890 Interdisciplinary Studies Capstone or similar capstone course, if approved by the program director -0-1 Credits), which may involve an internship, a directed independent study, a relevant study abroad, a TLO, community-based experience, or other project in consultation with the program director.

Concentration Core (3 Credits)

Grades of C or higher are required in the concentration core.

Concentration Electives (12 Credits)

Grades of C or higher are required in all concentration electives.

Students must complete a minimum of 15 credit hours 3000-4000 level coursework with the following prefixes:

Free Electives (30-32 Credits)

Students must complete a minimum of 48 upper-level credits out of the total 120 degree applicable required credit hours. Free electives may be courses in any discipline (provided the required prerequisites are met) and they are the hours needed to satisfy the total 120 credit hour requirement for the degree.
