Upon admission to the program, students must develop an individual program of study in consultation with the Program Director. There is no program prerequisite requirement.

Requisites (3 credits)

Grade of C or higher required in courses used toward the major.

SELECT 1 course from the following:
HSC2000 Health Care Career (3 credits)
HSC2100 Personal and Public Health (3 credits)
HUN2201 Basic Principles of Human Nutrition (3 credits)
Required course for students in accelerated BSH-IHS to MS in Athletic Training pathway.

Grade of C or higher required in courses used toward the major

DIE4940 Nutrition and Dietetic Field Experience (fall only)
FSS3800 Seminar Food Systems and Sustainability (spring only)
HSA3101 Intro to Health Administration
HSA3191 Health Information Systems
HSA4111 US Health Care System
HSA4553 Health Law & Ethics
HSC3537 Medical Terminology
HSC3578 Food, Health, and Society
HSC4612 Exercise Physiology for Health Science (fall only)
HUN3014 Nutrition and Fitness (typically summer only)

HUN3403 Lifespan Nutrition (fall only)

PET3312C Biomechanics (fall only)

The following courses are for students admitted to the BSH-IHS to MS in Athletic Training Accelerated Pathway and require Program Director approval. The two courses below can count towards IHS Major requirements or Major elective requirements.
ATR5105C Foundations in Athletic Training* (3 credits, Summer B only)
ATR5126C Gross Anatomy for Athletic Trainers* (3 credits , Summer B only)
* Required courses for students in accelerated BSH-IHS to MSAT pathway.

Major Electives (24 credits)

Students are free to select eight major electives from any 3000 or 4000 level courses. There is no minor required but a Brooks College of Health minor is encouraged including Food Systems & Sustainability, Global Health, Public Health, or Environmental Studies. A non-Brooks College of Health minor is also an option with the program director's approval. Grades of C or higher required in courses used toward the major

Free Electives (15 credits)

This degree requires a minimum of 120 total hours with 48 upper level (3000/4000) level hours. Free electives may be courses in any discipline (provided the required prerequisites are met) and they are the hours needed to satisfy the total hour requirement. These hours may vary (consult your advisor about free elective hours needed to graduate). Grade of C or higher required in courses used toward the major.

Below are the required MS in Athletic Training program prerequisites and recommended free electives for students interested in the BSH-IHS to MSAT Accelerated Pathway.

  • PHY1028/1028L Introduction to Physics with lab
  • CHM2045/2045L General Chemistry I with lab
  • BSC1010C General Biology I with lab
  • STA2014 or STA2023 Elementary Statistics
  • PSY2012 Introduction to Psychology
  • PET3312C Biomechanics or PET3310 Kinesiology
  • HSC4612 Exercise Physiology for Health Science
Admission Criteria to Begin BSH-IHS to MSAT Accelerated Pathway:
  • Meet with the IHS and MSAT Program Directors and a BCH academic advisor to discuss eligibility for pathway
  • Personal statement describing prior experiences, accomplishments, and career goals. Submit this to MSAT Program Director
  • College Cumulative GPA of 3.0
Additional Admission Criteria Prior to Enrollment in MSAT-level Coursework:
  • Earn a GPA of 3.0 in upper-level courses
  • Completion of all MSAT prerequisites with a GPA of 3.0
  • Meet MSAT Program Technical Standards for admission
  • 50 hours of observational experience under the supervision of a Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation submitted to MSAT Program Director. One letter of recommendation must be from an Athletic Trainer who supervised you during your observational experience
  • Interview with the UNF Athletic Training Program Faculty
Special Notes:
  • Completion of the UNF application in the Athletic Training Centralized Application System is not required for students enrolled in the accelerated pathway
  • Two graduate courses (ATR5105C and ATR5126C) will satisfy two IHS major requirements or major electives
