Dr. Zabriskie instructing an undergraduate marketing class.Noel B. Zabriskie was a Professor of Marketing Management and a charter faculty member at the University of North Florida (1973-1993). His research made significant contributions to several areas of marketing. Dr. Zabriskie pioneered the use of computer mapping technologies to help decision-makers rapidly comprehend large volumes of marketing information and developed innovative techniques that transformed how marketers visualized and analyzed spatial data. His work in consumer behavior and retailing included groundbreaking research on do-it-yourself consumers, where he analyzed hundreds of cases to develop segmentation insights that helped retailers formulate more effective strategies. Dr. Zabriskie also examined the challenging issue of consumer fraud and fraudulent behavior in retail contexts.
In strategic management, he contributed to understanding how senior executives develop strategic thinking capabilities and how marketing research could function as a strategic tool for competitive advantage. His research extended to industrial marketing, where he developed frameworks for measuring salespeople's productivity and improving salesforce effectiveness through teamwork strategies. Throughout his career, Dr. Zabriskie combined theoretical rigor with practical application, producing research that served both academic advancement and managerial decision-making across retail, industrial, and strategic marketing contexts.
In 1995, the "Noel Zabriskie Outstanding Marketing Graduate Award” was founded in honor of Dr. Zabriskie and is awarded annually to one of our top marketing graduates by the marketing faculty.
