2018-2019 School of Music Concert Calendar

The majority of School of Music concerts are free. Registration for free events is encouraged for attendance tracking and marketing purposes. However, printing the e-ticket is not required. Proceeds from sales of ticketed events go to promote talented music students via scholarships. For ticketed event information, contact the Ticket Box Office at (904) 620-2878.

 

Those attending music events may park at no charge on the 2nd – 4th floors of the Fine Arts Center Garage and Lot 1 (lot surrounding the Fine Arts Center Garage). Outside of this designated section, parking permits which cost $5 are required and enforcement is administered. Permits may be purchased from the Parking Information booths, located at the I-295 or Kernan Boulevard campus entrance. If you have any questions, please contact Parking and Transportation Services at (904) 620-2815.

Founded in 1983 by members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Scharoun Ensemble is one of Germany’s leading chamber-music organizations. With its wide repertoire, ranging from composers of the Baroque period by way of Classical and Romantic chamber music to contemporary works, the Scharoun Ensemble has been inspiring audiences in Europe and overseas for more than a quarter of a century. Innovative programming, a refined tonal culture and spirited interpretations are hallmarks of the ensemble, which performs in a variety of instrumental combinations.

Ms. Koh began playing the violin by chance, choosing the instrument in a Suzuki-method program only because spaces for cello and piano had been filled. She made her debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at age 11. She has been honored as Musical America’s 2016 Instrumentalist of the Year, top prize winner at Moscow’s International Tchaikovsky Competition, winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, and a recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Oberlin College and studied at the Curtis Institute, where she worked extensively with Jaime Laredo and Felix Galimir.
