Tips

Additional information and guidance:

  • If you are part of a roommate group, speak directly to all members of your roommate group before the process begins to verify everyone has an active Housing Contract for Academic Year 2026- 2027. Being part of roommate group in myHousing does not validate a student has an active housing contract. Housing and Residence Life is not able to verify the contract status of roommate group members for any student. All students should individually share their contract status with all members of their roommate group.
  • While participating in the process, search broadly for room types as opposed to searching for very specific room types.  If you do not see your preferred room type, broaden your search to see what is available in that moment.
  • There are several phases of room selection. Prior to each phase you will be assigned a time ticket with the initial date and time you will be able to enter the process for each phase. Your time ticket for each phase will be sent to your UNF e-mail address. You can expect each time ticket to be delivered to you via e-mail the day before each phase begins.
  • Do not log into myHousing before your scheduled time ticket during each phase. There is no advantage to entering the portal earlier as you will not be able to see available spaces until your time ticket begins.
  • Your time ticket date and time is determined by your Housing Contract submission date and time. The earlier you completed a contract, the earlier your time ticket will begin for each phase.
  • Prior to your assigned time ticket starting for the phase(s) you choose to participate in, you are encouraged to make sure you have access to a computer with a trusted internet connection and you are free from distraction. Cell phone or tablet devices will navigate into the system but can be slow and may limit your navigation within the system. While not required, Housing and Residence Life encourages use of a desktop or laptop computer for this process. Housing and Residence Life is not responsible for computer access or wired/wireless internet connectivity challenges. A student having a challenge(s) with their computer equipment or internet connectivity will not pause or stop any phase of the process from progressing. Once a phase begins the system will be on and available for participants in time ticket order. As minutes go by more and more students will be cleared to enter into the system via their time ticket beginning.  Housing and Residence Life cannot diagnose or fix a challenge(s) associated with a student’s computer equipment or internet connectivity.
  • During each phase of the process Housing and Residence Life staff will be monitoring the system and working to ensure the system is operating as we would expect. The time ticket approach helps regulate how many students are in the system at any one time which helps all students by ensuring the process is flowing appropriately.

Rising Sophomores and Above

  • What should I do to prepare for room selection?
Ensure all roommate preferences within myHousing are up to date and search and mutually accept your desired roommate(s).
  • What are the phases of room selection?
There are initial phases of room selection "New Room, Accepted Roommate(s)" that is designed for roommate groups to assign their group into a suite, unit, or room and fill all vacancies in the room to confirm the assignment. There is a later phase of room selection "Open Room Selection" that is designed for students who are looking to assign themselves to any open bed space with or without confirmed roommates. Individual students and roommate groups can participate in Open Room Selection without needing to fill all vacant bed spaces in a suite/unit/room.
  • What is a time ticket?
A time ticket is a designated date and time in which you can enter myHousing and complete Room Selection. If you are in a roommate group, only one student needs to complete the room selection process, as they will be able to assign any roommates within their Roommate Group at the same time. We encourage students to communicate amongst each other to determine who will complete this process. To maximize priority, the student with the earliest time ticket may want to be the one to complete the process.
  • What happens if I can't fill the selected room with accepted roommates?
During the "New Room, Accepted Roommate(s)" phases of room selection, you will not be able to assign yourself to the space if there are vacant bed spaces in the room that exceed your roommate group number. For example, if you are looking at a vacant 4-person suite but only have two accepted roommates, you will need to look for an available double or have accepted third and fourth roommates.
  • What happens if I have more accepted roommates than can fill a space?
If you have more accepted roommates than space available, the next option would be to find another space that you and your accepted roommates can fill; or you could split into groups that can fill a space. Housing and Residence Life can also work with those specific groups in finding spaces that are close to each other.
  • How many students can be in a roommate group?
Every student can have a maximum of 6 students in a roommate group. It is not suggested to add this many people unless you are seeking a 6-person suite in Osprey Fountains.
  • Are there any rooms or spaces that might not be available during the room selection process?
Yes, some rooms/apartments/suites and/or bed spaces may not be available due to Living-Learning Communities, Theme Housing, medical/disability needs, etc.
