Room Selection FAQs
Tips
Additional information and guidance:
- If you are part of a roommate group, speak directly to all members of your roommate group before the process begins to verify everyone has an active Housing Contract for Academic Year 2026- 2027. Being part of roommate group in myHousing does not validate a student has an active housing contract. Housing and Residence Life is not able to verify the contract status of roommate group members for any student. All students should individually share their contract status with all members of their roommate group.
- While participating in the process, search broadly for room types as opposed to searching for very specific room types. If you do not see your preferred room type, broaden your search to see what is available in that moment.
- There are several phases of room selection. Prior to each phase you will be assigned a time ticket with the initial date and time you will be able to enter the process for each phase. Your time ticket for each phase will be sent to your UNF e-mail address. You can expect each time ticket to be delivered to you via e-mail the day before each phase begins.
- Do not log into myHousing before your scheduled time ticket during each phase. There is no advantage to entering the portal earlier as you will not be able to see available spaces until your time ticket begins.
- Your time ticket date and time is determined by your Housing Contract submission date and time. The earlier you completed a contract, the earlier your time ticket will begin for each phase.
- Prior to your assigned time ticket starting for the phase(s) you choose to participate in, you are encouraged to make sure you have access to a computer with a trusted internet connection and you are free from distraction. Cell phone or tablet devices will navigate into the system but can be slow and may limit your navigation within the system. While not required, Housing and Residence Life encourages use of a desktop or laptop computer for this process. Housing and Residence Life is not responsible for computer access or wired/wireless internet connectivity challenges. A student having a challenge(s) with their computer equipment or internet connectivity will not pause or stop any phase of the process from progressing. Once a phase begins the system will be on and available for participants in time ticket order. As minutes go by more and more students will be cleared to enter into the system via their time ticket beginning. Housing and Residence Life cannot diagnose or fix a challenge(s) associated with a student’s computer equipment or internet connectivity.
- During each phase of the process Housing and Residence Life staff will be monitoring the system and working to ensure the system is operating as we would expect. The time ticket approach helps regulate how many students are in the system at any one time which helps all students by ensuring the process is flowing appropriately.

Preparing for Room Selection
-
What should I do to prepare for room selection?
Ensure all roommate preferences within myHousing are up to date and search and mutually accept your desired roommate(s). -
What are the phases of room selection?
There are initial phases of room selection "New Room, Accepted Roommate(s)" that is designed for roommate groups to assign their group into a suite, unit, or room and fill all vacancies in the room to confirm the assignment. There is a later phase of room selection "Open Room Selection" that is designed for students who are looking to assign themselves to any open bed space with or without confirmed roommates. Individual students and roommate groups can participate in Open Room Selection without needing to fill all vacant bed spaces in a suite/unit/room. -
What is a time ticket?
A time ticket is a designated date and time in which you can enter myHousing and complete Room Selection. If you are in a roommate group, only one student needs to complete the room selection process, as they will be able to assign any roommates within their Roommate Group at the same time. We encourage students to communicate amongst each other to determine who will complete this process. To maximize priority, the student with the earliest time ticket may want to be the one to complete the process. -
What happens if I can't fill the selected room with accepted roommates?
During the "New Room, Accepted Roommate(s)" phases of room selection, you will not be able to assign yourself to the space if there are vacant bed spaces in the room that exceed your roommate group number. For example, if you are looking at a vacant 4-person suite but only have two accepted roommates, you will need to look for an available double or have accepted third and fourth roommates. -
What happens if I have more accepted roommates than can fill a space?
If you have more accepted roommates than space available, the next option would be to find another space that you and your accepted roommates can fill; or you could split into groups that can fill a space. Housing and Residence Life can also work with those specific groups in finding spaces that are close to each other. -
How many students can be in a roommate group?
Every student can have a maximum of 6 students in a roommate group. It is not suggested to add this many people unless you are seeking a 6-person suite in Osprey Fountains. -
Are there any rooms or spaces that might not be available during the room selection process?
Yes, some rooms/apartments/suites and/or bed spaces may not be available due to Living-Learning Communities, Theme Housing, medical/disability needs, etc.
During Room Selection
-
One person is assigned to the apartment/room. How is this possible?
The name shown represents students who currently live on campus who chose to be reassigned into that same space for the upcoming academic year. -
Multiple rooms have only one student already assigned to it. Can those students be moved so our roommate group can fill the space?
Those students chose to be pre-assigned back into their current space for the upcoming academic year. We are unable to move those students from their current assignment unless they choose to participate in a later phase of room selection or cancel. -
I am not in a roommate group. Do I have to wait until phase four to participate in room selection?
As long as you can fill an available suite/unit/room that only has one vacant bed space, you can participate in phases two and/or three of room selection. -
What happens if I miss my priority phase?
If a student misses their priority phase, they are not guaranteed their preferred space will be available in the next applicable phase. -
Can I change my room assignment during Room Selection?
Yes, during Phases Two, Three and Four of Room Selection, students can change their previously selected assignment. However, this is done at your own risk, as there is no guarantee your previous assignment will still be available if you decide to change it back.
-
What is the risk of changing my room assignment?
Changing your assignment at any time means giving up whatever priority you may have had to the previous space. -
Why did I get a time ticket for Flats? I don't want to live in the Flats. How do I change my contract to be for Fountains/Village?
You will receive a time ticket for each phase of room selection closer to the start of the respective phases. If you received a time ticket for the Flats, you will also receive a time ticket for Fountains/Village and are not required to participate in the Flats phase of room selection. -
Why are there rooms that only have 1 person (or 2 or 3 for larger units/suites) already in it? Can you move them so my group can take their room?
Those students currently live on campus, have submitted a Housing Contract for the upcoming academic year and chose to be pre-assigned into that same space for the upcoming academic year. We are unable to move them from their current space unless they choose to cancel or request a room change. -
Can you change my time ticket?/Can I get an earlier time ticket? Why is my time ticket so late?
No, time tickets are sent out in order of contract submission. The earlier a student submitted a contract the earlier their time ticket. We are unable to change time tickets. -
All of the rooms in (Flats/Village/Fountains private) are gone. Can you put me on a waitlist?
Housing does not utilize waitlists for specific room preferences. We encourage students to participate in room selection and assign themselves to an available bed space. You can contact our department in the summer to check if there are any established timelines for when re-assignment to a preferred room type or residence hall may be possible, or if spaces are available to change your assignment. -
I am already assigned./I assigned myself during phase 1/2/3, do I still need to participate in room selection?
If you already assigned yourself during a previous phase, you do not need to participate in the following phases of room selection. -
I still have not gotten a time ticket for Phase 3/4, when are those being sent?
Time tickets are sent between the conclusion of the previous phase and the start of the next phase. For example, if Phase 2 concludes at 2pm on a Tuesday, and Phase 3 is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on the following Wednesday, you can expect the Phase 3 time ticket email to be sent Tuesday after 2p.m.
After Room Selection
-
I don't like my selected space. Can I switch rooms?
If you participated in room selection and didn't get your first pick of rooms, hold tight. Connect with us during the summer semester, and we will work with you on finding a room assignment closer to your preferences. -
What happens if I didn't participate in the scheduled online room selection process?
Not participating in the scheduled online room selection process lowers a student's overall priority. -
I no longer want to live on campus, can I cancel my contract?
Yes, you can cancel your housing contract. Make sure to view our cancellation policy before you make your final decision. -
How can I view my assignment and roommate information?
Assignment and roommate information will be visible for students to view in myHousing throughout room selection. To view your assignment in the MyHousing Portal, select the Academic Year Contract that you participated in room selection for, then navigate to the Contract Complete page. From the drop-down menu, select Assignment Information.
