Room Selection for Fall 2024 - Spring 2025

Please note: This information and process is for Rising Sophomore students and above. First-year student room selection will occur in late June 2024.

Instructions and Important Information

Monday, April 22nd through Friday, April 26th, 2024, YOU will be in the driver’s seat to select your room assignment based on your contract priority date. The Room Selection Process is broken down into four specific room selection phases. Please review the information and instructions below carefully.

Preparing for Room Selection

Between now and April 22nd, every rising sophomore and above with an active Academic Year 2024/2025 housing contract will need to ensure they have read and completed the following, as applicable:

  1. Ensure ALL roommate preferences within myHousing are up to date.
  2. Search AND mutually accept your desired roommate(s). Please note the following:
  • Both you AND your desired roommate(s) must be in the same Roommate Group to be considered as a mutual request.
  • During Room Selection, there are phases in which you will need to ensure you can fill the selected room with accepted roommates, otherwise you will not be able to assign yourself to the space.
    • Example: If you are looking at a 4-person suite but there are only two of you (you and 1 accepted roommate) you will not be able to assign yourselves into the space. You will need to look for an available double or have accepted third and fourth roommates.
  • Every student can have a maximum of 6 students in a roommate group. It is not suggested that each student adds this many people to a roommate group unless you are seeking a 6-person suite in Osprey Fountains.
  • It is important to be pro-active in accepting or declining roommates within myHousing to prevent any issues during the Room Selection process.
  • Some rooms/apartments/suites and/or bed spaces may not be available for assignment during the room selection process due to Living-Learning Communities, Theme Housing, medical/disability needs, etc.

Rental rates for all room types noted above can be found on the UNF Housing and Residence Life Housing Room Rates webpage for Fall 2024/Spring 2025.

It is important to note that Housing and Residence Life strives to have a balance of both male and female bed spaces in each community when possible.

It is also important to note that the Housing Contract does not guarantee assignment to a particular type of accommodation or assignment to any preference indicated by a student.  A student's preferences are requests only and the University's granting of preferences or requests cannot be guaranteed.

To accommodate medical and disability needs as determined by the UNF Student Accessibility Center, Housing and Residence Life may adjust occupancy levels in some room types.

What are the phases for Room Selection?

This is a great question! Students will be able to assign themselves into available space based on the following phases of priority:

Phase One: Pre-Assignment Pull-in for Osprey Village, Osprey Fountains, and The Flats at UNF

(Assignments visible Friday, April 19, 2024 at 9 a.m.)

Students in Osprey Village, Osprey Fountains, and The Flats at UNF who were pre-assigned back into their current space and want to assign new roommate(s) from their Roommate Group will participate in Phase One. Space must still be available within their room to participate in this phase. It is the responsibility of the person who was pre-assigned to form their roommate group by Friday, April 12th at 5 p.m.

  • Housing and Residence Life will manually assign any mutual roommates for Osprey Fountains, Osprey Village, or Flats at UNF residents during this phase.
  • We cannot guarantee we can pull in your entire roommate group. If another current member of an apartment was also pre-assigned, and you both have conflicting roommate groups, the Department will not place any more students in the apartment. You will be informed via your UNF E-mail address that you will need to participate in room selection to assign yourself with your group.

Phase Two: New Room, Accepted Roommate(s) for The Flats at UNF

(Opens at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024 and ends at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024)

Students who are looking to reserve a bedroom at The Flats at UNF (or a different Flats bedroom than they are currently preassigned to), have accepted roommates AND can fill all available bed space in an apartment, will have a Time Ticket to assign or room change themselves and accepted roommates during this phase. As noted above, you will not be able to assign yourself and accepted roommates to a space that you cannot fill completely. This means if there were two of you in a roommate group and you are trying to select a 3-bedroom apartment, you will either need to find an open 2-bedroom apartment or accept a third roommate in your roommate group to make your assignment.

Students will be able to change a pre-assignment during this phase. It is important to note that you do so at your own risk. There is no guarantee your previous assignment will still be available if you decide that you want to try to change it back. Changing your assignment at any time is giving up whatever priority you may have had to the previous space.

All students going into this phase will be assigned a “Time Ticket” which is a designated date and time in which they can enter myHousing and complete their Room Selection. Only one student needs to complete this process, as they will be able to assign any roommates within their Roommate Group at the same time. We encourage students to communicate amongst each other to determine who will complete this process. To maximize priority, the student with the earliest time ticket may want to be the one to complete the process.

Phase Three: New Room, Accepted Roommate(s) for Osprey Fountains, Osprey Village and Osprey Landing

(Opens at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 and ends at 2p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024)

Students who are looking to reserve a room (or a different room than they are currently assigned), have accepted roommates AND can fill the room, will be able to assign or room change themselves during this phase. As noted above, you will not be able to assign yourself to a space that you cannot fill completely. This means if there were two of you in a roommate group and you are trying to select a 4-Person Suite, you will either need to find an open double or accept a third and fourth roommate in your roommate group to make your assignment.

Students will be able to change a previously selected assignment during this phase.

Phase Four: Open Room Selection for Osprey Fountains, Osprey Villages, Osprey Landing, and The Flats at UNF

(Opens at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, and will remain open until 12 Noon on Monday, April 29, 2024)

Students who are looking to assign themselves to any open bed space with or without confirmed roommates will participate in this phase.

All students going into this phase will be assigned a “Time Ticket” which is a designated date and time in which they can enter myHousing and complete their Room Selection. Outside of the “Time Ticket” there are no restrictions during this phase.

Students who are a part of a Roommate Group who participate in open room selection will have the ability to make room selections for the entirety of the roommate group, or just themselves. If you are hoping to remove yourself from an assignment with a Roommate Group, leave the group before selecting a new space. Roommate Groups will be available to be edited in this phase. Phase Four will be the only Phase where Roommate Group adjustments will be available.

What happens after I have selected my assignment?

There are several important things to note about the Upper-Class Room Selection process, such as:

  1. If a student misses their priority phase, they are not guaranteed their preferred space will be available to them in the next applicable phase.
  2. During Phases Two, Three, and Four of Room Selection, students will be able to change their previously selected assignment. It is important to note that you do so at your own risk. There is no guarantee your previous assignment will still be available if you decide that you want to try to change it back. Changing your assignment at any time is giving up whatever priority you may have had to the previous space.
  3. A student failing to participate in scheduled on-line room selection process, lowers a student’s overall priority to be assigned to a bed space.
  4. Assignment and roommate information will be visible for students to view in myHousing throughout room selection. To view your assignment in the Myhousing Portal, select the Academic Year 2024-2025 Contract, then navigate to the Contract Complete page. From the drop-down menu, select Assignment Information.
