  • What are the current trends for job opportunities?
    Nationally, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 115,200 new management analyst jobs will be created between 2016 and 2026. Growth in business analytics and information fields will sustain at a rate of three-times the national job growth average with a continued 11% growth rate through 2024. In particular, jobs for business/management analysts in general was expected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to grow 14% from 2014 to 2024 (www.bls.gov). By 2020, the number of jobs for all US business analysts will increase from the present 364,000 openings to 2,720,000 as indicated by IBM.
  • What background and skills are needed for the program?
    It helps if you have an interest in technology, but outside the course prerequisites, there are no specific requirements. Having a background in technology might help, don’t let it stop you from finding out more, because the courses are designed for people of different skill levels.
  • When can I start the Business Intelligence Program?
    The required courses for the major can be taken in any order. This means you can start taking classes in the major in any semester. Please note though some classes may not be offered every semester, so it will help if you meet with an advisor to plan accordingly.
  • Do I need to learn programming?
    There are no coding or programming classes required. However, it does require learning about different computing hardware and software applications, and learning how to work with people involved with the software development processes. If you are interested in learning programming though, there are courses offered in the school of computing and they can be used as electives for this program.
  • What are some career fields for this major?

    There are a wide variety of career opportunities available. Job growth in technology related jobs, and in particular for jobs related to analytics and big data, will grow much faster than the average for other occupations*. The program is designed so students can take elective classes based on their area of interest. Some examples of job opportunities are:
