Osprey Financial Group honors top investment students at luncheon

Osprey Financial Group winner holding an award next to a trophyThe Osprey Financial Group held its 18th Annual Report Luncheon at the UNF Adam W. Herbert University Center April 18 to present their 2022-2023 performance report.

Three students were recognized during the luncheon for having the best performance on their investments in the past academic year. About 50 people including students, alumni, faculty, staff and prominent business representatives were at the event. OFG was established following a donation in 2001 from the late Jody and Layton Smith who contributed $500,000 to UNF for students who engage in real investments.

Reinhold Lamb, Coggin College of Business Jody and Layton Smith Professor of Finance, designed the program in 2002 and said the investment fund has grown to $1.5 million. The current cohort of students contributed about $90,000 in additional growth from investments this academic year.

The top three performing students received honors under the Danahy Alpha Cup which was established this year and named after UNF Coggin College alum Sean Danahy who is the Executive Director – Global Head of Product for JP Morgan in New York City. Danahy also made a financial contribution to the Coggin College.

The students who received Danahy Alpha Cup award recognition and financial prizes for top performance for the 2022-2023 OFG investments include:

First place $700 – Andrew Hallenbeck

Second place $300 - Dennis Nieves

Third place $100 – Bobby Ward

Coggin College of Business Dean Richard Buttimer said Osprey Financial Group is an example of practical education students get at UNF.

“Coggin College has always been at the forefront of experiential learning and OFG demonstrates that with real dollars and cents. We’re proud of our investment group and congratulate the top performing investment students,” Dr. Buttimer said.
