  • When should I apply?
All transfer students must meet the application deadline for admissions consideration. You may apply up to one year in advance of your projected enrollment date, and we encourage students to start the application process 6 months prior to the term they are interested in starting in at the University.
  • How long does the process take?

Admissions decisions are rendered on a rolling basis. Once we receive all required application materials, you can expect to receive an admissions decision in 6-8 weeks. However, sometimes it can take longer (or shorter), depending on the time of year and how many applications we have received.

  • How do I know if my credits will transfer?
Please go to the Transfer Credits page for detailed information.
  • I think I will have fewer than 60 transferable semester credit hours. Can I still transfer?
Yes. If you have more than 12-29 transferable semester credit hours, you apply to the University as a lower-level transfer. If you have 30-59 transferable semester credit hours, you apply to the University as a mid-level transfer. Please visit the Transfer Student Admission page for more information.
  • Do I have to have two years of sequential foreign language completed before I can transfer to UNF?

Maybe. If you have fewer than 60 transferable semester credit hours, you will be required to meet the general admission criteria for freshman applicants. Part of the general admissions criteria for lower-level transfer students and incoming freshman is the satisfactory completion of two years of sequential foreign language taken while in high school.

If you are an upper-level transfer student, with 60 or more transferable semester credit hours or a public Florida community college A.A., the foreign language requirement becomes a graduation requirement rather than an admissions requirement. If you did complete the two years of sequential foreign language (or American sign language) at the high school level, you may submit an official high school transcript for review. If you satisfactorily completed the requirement at the college level (8 semester hours of sequential foreign language), you will be given credit as part of the transcript evaluation process.

If you have not completed the requirement and if you are an upper-level transfer student, you will be allowed to complete the required 8 semester hours of foreign language while at UNF.

  • I have an A.A. degree from a public Florida community or state college. Does that make any difference in my admissibility to UNF?
Yes. Applicants who possess a Florida community or state college A.A. degree are most competitive for admission as a transfer student if space is available, as outlined under the statewide 2+2 articulation agreement. In addition, the public Florida community college A.A. degree guarantees satisfaction of all UNF general education requirements. Please go to the UNF Catalog for more information.
  • Do I have to pick a major before I can be processed for admission?
Yes. All transfer students with 60 or more transferable credit hours must declare a major as part of the admissions process. Transfer students are admitted to a particular major, not just to the university. We must know what your major is to process your application. Visit the UNF Catalog for a listing of available majors.
  • I am still taking classes. Can I apply even though I don't have my final grades?

Yes. In fact, it is strongly recommended that you apply early, even if you are still enrolled in courses at another institution. We encourage you to apply and submit unofficial copies of your transcripts that include your in-progress courses. If you are admissible, UNF may offer you a tentative acceptance offer. This tentative admittance is based on your successful completion of any outstanding coursework and the receipt of any outstanding final official transcripts once your transcript is finalized.

  • Do I have to wait until I have everything together before I send my application?
No, however, all materials must be received by the application materials deadline.
  • Do I have to start in the term I was admitted or can I start in any term?

Your admissions decision is specific to the term you applied for, and this decision does not automatically apply to additional terms. To move your application to a new term you will need to submit the application update form. Keep in mind that you will need to drop any courses you are currently registered for before we will be able to cancel your application. You can drop your courses in your myWings Student Portal within the "Registration" tile. We also recommend that you speak with Financial Aid before switching terms to discuss any financial aid implications.

Please note, we will not be able to process a term change request after your admission term has already begun. If the term has started, you will need to reach out to the Registrar's Office via email at records@unf.edu to discuss your course withdrawal options.

  • I applied for or was admitted to an earlier term but decided not to attend. Do I have to re-apply?
Yes, you would need to reapply as applications are term specific.
  • How do I change my major on my application if I've already submitted it?

If you are simply changing between open access majors, you will wait to change your major until after your admissions decision has been made and you meet with your academic advisor. If you are admitted, you can work with your advisor to fill out a change of major form. Besides specialized and selective access programs, your major has no impact on our admission decision, so it is best if you wait until after a decision has been made.

If you originally applied to a specialized or selective access program and you want to change to an open access program or vice versa, you will need to complete the application update form. If you are switching to a specialized or selective access program, please keep in mind that special deadlines and additional requirements will apply.
