-
I would like to be considered for a scholarship - how do I find out more information?
For optimal consideration for one of UNF's institutional scholarships, submit your complete admissions application and scholarship application as soon as possible. Presidential Scholarships are automatically awarded to admitted students who meet the eligibility requirements. These scholarships are awarded until funding is exhausted. -
Is there a minimum GPA or SAT/ACT score in order to qualify for a UNF merit scholarship?
Yes. UNF defines the minimum GPA for any UNF merit-based scholarship as a 3.0 (un-rounded, weighted for freshmen). SAT/ACT test score minimums for freshmen scholarships vary depending on the scholarship. -
After I receive a UNF scholarship offer, how long do I have to make a decision on whether or not to accept the award?
Because Admissions scholarships are non-binding, we ask that you submit your scholarship agreement within 30 days of receipt. Should you have any questions or need more time, you may contact the UNF Scholarship Coordinator at unfscholarships@unf.edu. -

I did not receive a scholarship, but would like to be on a waiting list. What is the likelihood of receiving an award?
Scholarships are awarded until funding is exhausted. All students without scholarship funding are reviewed for eligibility during each round of awarding. There is no need for a wait list since students are reviewed on a continual basis. -
If I'm eligible to receive more than one UNF institutional award, it is possible to receive multiple awards?
In fairness to all eligible applicants, UNF refrains from offering more than one institutional scholarship to the same student. You will be able to keep the highest award for which you are eligible. Be sure to apply early for optimal consideration. -
I'm a Florida resident and receiving Bright Futures in addition to a UNF scholarship. Can I keep both?
Yes! As long as the total of your scholarships and financial aid (including Bright Futures) does not exceed the Cost of Attendance, as determined by the UNF Office of Student Financial Aid, you are welcome to keep both awards. -
How do I use my scholarship to defer or pend my tuition/fees?
Tuition and fees will be automatically pended against your available financial aid and/or scholarships. If your financial aid does not completely cover the charges on your account, you will need to pay the remaining balance due by the payment deadline. The deadline to pay tuition and fees is listed for each term on the Academic Calendar. -
How can I apply a scholarship toward University Housing?
The value of a scholarship would have to be enough to first cover tuition. The remaining balance can be applied toward your housing payment. -
Can I apply a scholarship toward payment of a meal membership?
Yes! If your scholarships and financial aid cover your tuition and fees, your meal membership may be deferred. -
When will I receive the eRefund from my scholarship programs?
Once tuition and fees have been covered, Student Financial Services disburses any balance of scholarship dollars to students after the payment deadline each term. You can usually expect to see payment beginning in the third week of the term. For the fastest access to your refund, please set up your eRefund account in myWings. Visit Student Financial Services for instructions on setting up direct deposit. -
How do scholarship awards affect my federal financial aid?
Scholarships count toward your financial aid; therefore, other aid (loans, institutional grants, etc.) may need to be reduced so you are not over-awarded beyond your cost of attendance. A Cost of Attendance is determined for each student and, according to Federal regulations, the sum of your awards cannot exceed this amount. Additionally, if you are an athlete, the NCAA has regulations and guidelines that must be followed. It is imperative that you notify One-Stop Student Services if you are receiving additional funding as this may affect your Federal Financial Aid. -
Can scholarships be awarded for the summer term?
UNF institutional scholarships are not usually awarded during the summer. If an independent organization wishes to grant you a scholarship for use during a summer term, ask your donor to send these funds directly to the University with your name and student N# clearly marked: University of North Florida, Attention: Scholarships and Strategic Initiatives, 1 UNF Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224. -
If I take classes at UNF and another community college or university, will I still be eligible for my scholarship?
NOT NECESSARILY. Check with unfscholarships@unf.edu to ensure proper enrollment for different scholarships and financial aid programs. Your scholarship and/or financial aid may be jeopardized if you are not properly enrolled at UNF. Students receiving institutional scholarships for example, must be enrolled at UNF in order to receive funding.
**Please note that most UNF institutional grants and Enrollment Services scholarships require enrollment in a minimum of 15 credit hours for disbursement. Coursework taken at another institution does not fulfill this requirement.
-
Can I lose my UNF Institutional scholarship?
YES, if you do not meet the terms of your scholarship contract, your scholarship may be canceled. Read your scholarship agreement carefully, maintain the required UNF institutional GPA and be sure to enroll per your scholarship agreement at UNF for renewal. Students are evaluated for scholarship eligibility at the end of each spring term to determine renewal for the next academic year. If you do not enroll in the minimum UNF credit hours each term (fall and spring), however, your scholarship may be in jeopardy even after the fall term. Check your scholarship agreement to see if you may take summer coursework to meet the credit hour renewal requirement for your scholarship. -
I'm getting a private scholarship. What do I do with a scholarship check when the organization mails it to me?
Please bring the check to One-Stop Student Services. If it requires endorsement, be sure to sign the check. Once received, checks will be processed and added as a private scholarship on your myWings award summary. Keep in mind that private scholarship checks may affect your financial aid funding. -
Where should an organization send my scholarship check?
Ask your donor to send these funds directly to the University with your name and student N# clearly marked: University of North Florida, Attention: Scholarships and Strategic Initiatives, 1 UNF Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224. Donors may explain how the funds are to be disbursed. -
