The University of North Florida offers scholarships for freshman and transfer students at the undergraduate level. UNF is committed to helping students finance their college education. Whether you are seeking a scholarship based on academic achievements or financial need, we offer plenty of options. UNF Presidential Scholarship

 The University of North Florida is committed to helping students invest in their college education. Incoming first-year students who exhibit outstanding academic achievements are automatically considered for the Presidential Scholarship.

Who is eligible for the UNF Presidential Scholarship?

Minimum requirements: 3.8 high school GPA

The Presidential Scholarship award you may be eligible for is based on a combination of your test score and recalculated high school grade point average. The higher your GPA and test scores, the more likely you will be to receive a higher award. Scholarships are provided on a funds-available basis, so apply for admission early. 

How much is the UNF Presidential Scholarship award?

Awards range up to $24,000 over four years for students who have a 3.8 minimum weighted grade point average and corresponding test scores on the ACT or SAT.

How to apply for the UNF Presidential Scholarship?

No separate scholarship application is required. The priority consideration date for all scholarships is October 15. Students who have been admitted to UNF by this date will receive priority consideration.

UNF Rising Scholars Osprey Test Prep Scholarship

Osprey Test Prep Program

The University of North Florida offers scholarships to Duval County students who are taking the initiative to get the best possible score on their standardized tests by participating in the University of North Florida Rising Scholars Osprey Test Prep Program.

We know you have many choices for your college education and UNF would like to encourage talented students in Duval County to stay in the local area for their higher education experience.

Who is eligible for the Rising Scholars Osprey Test Prep Program?

Students in the Rising Scholars Osprey Test Prep Program are eligible to receive the UNF Rising Scholars Osprey Test Prep Scholarship if they complete these four criteria:

  1. Attend a free UNF test preparation session.
  2. Take a UNF campus tour, either through a UNF Welcome Center event or participate in one of our regular weekday campus tours.
  3. Apply and be admitted to UNF as a first-time-in-college freshman.
  4. Prepare for the financial responsibility of attending college by...
    1. Participating in a UNF financial aid workshop at your high school, or
    2. Sit in on a University-sponsored event with a financial aid component, including a test prep session, or
    3. Meet one-on-one with a financial aid staff member at the UNF One-Stop Student Services office (be sure to let the financial aid representative know you are trying to earn the scholarship so they can appropriately document your meeting)

*A reminder that scholarships are awarded on a funds-available basis and qualifying does not automatically result in an award offer.

How much is the Rising Scholars Osprey Test Prep Program award?

$4,000 total = $1,000/year for four years

How to apply for the Rising Scholars Osprey Test Prep Program?

There is no separate application process for the Rising Scholars Osprey Test Prep Program. Admitted students who meet the criteria are automatically considered for this scholarship.

The UNF Commitment

The University of North Florida is dedicated to helping students be successful in their college career. We understand that for some students, the cost of earning a degree may be a barrier to success. The UNF Commitment Scholarship is designed to help students reach their educational goals by making a UNF degree more affordable.

Who is eligible for a UNF Commitment Scholarship?

Students eligible for the UNF Commitment Scholarship must:

  • Be admitted to UNF as a first-time in college student
  • Be a Florida resident for tuition purposes
  • Attend an eligible Florida high school
  • Be ranked in the Top 10 of their high school graduating class
  • Submit an error-free FAFSA (priority consideration is given to students who submit their FAFSA by October 15 each year)
  • Be eligible for the Pell Grant as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

How much is a UNF Commitment Scholarship award?

The UNF Commitment Scholars may receive up to $6,000 per academic year, which may be used in addition to their Federal Pell Grant, Bright Futures scholarship and any other State or Federal financial aid.

Jacksonville Commitment

Thousands of Duval County public school students who have the desire to further their educational goals may fear that they lack the resources to continue their academic careers beyond high school. The University of North Florida offers The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship to eligible students who meet the academic standards required for admission to the University.

Who is eligible for The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship?

Students eligible for The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship must:

  • Be admitted to the University of North Florida
  • Be a recent Duval County public high school graduate with a standard high school diploma
  • Be a Florida resident for tuition purposes
  • Complete The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship Application
  • Submit an error-free FAFSA (priority consideration is given to students who submit their FAFSA by October 15 each year).
  • Be eligible for the Pell Grant as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

How much does The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship provide?

UNF has committed to providing funding to help with the cost of a University education for eligible students. The scholarship award is valued at $24,000 over four years.

To apply, you must complete The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship Application.

  • Is there a waiting list?
    The program can only accept a certain number of students each academic year. Once that maximum is reached, applicants may be added to a wait list and will be notified if space opens up and they are awarded a scholarship.
  • How do other scholarships and financial aid affect The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship?
    Students may receive certain other types of financial aid that could impact their eligibility for the Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship.
  • Are international students eligible for these awards?
    If a student is eligible for in-state tuition as determined by Florida’s residency for tuition purposes guidelines, then they will also be eligible for The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship assuming that all of the other requirements are met.
  • Is there an application deadline?
    The priority consideration date to submit the scholarship application and an error-free FAFSA is October 15 of the student's senior year in high school. However, we continue to accept applications through the fall and spring terms. The key is to apply as soon as possible.

First Generation

The University of North Florida participates in Florida's First Generation Matching Grant Program. Over 300 UNF students were awarded First Generation scholarships in 2007 during its first year, thanks to UNF fundraising efforts and an appropriation from the Florida Legislature.

Who is eligible for the First Generation Scholarship?

In order to qualify students must:

  • Be a Florida resident
  • Have parents who have not completed their bachelors degrees
  • Submit a FAFSA that demonstrates financial need
  • Be enrolled in at least six credit hours, in a degree seeking major
  • Maintain a minimum 2.0 UNF GPA.

How much is the First Generation Scholarship award?

The award amounts vary. 

How to apply for the First Generation Scholarship?

Students are notified of their award at the beginning of the Fall term via UNF email. For new students, an affidavit attached to their scholarship notification must be signed and uploaded or returned to One-Stop Student Services located in Hicks Hall. Once received, awards are posted in the student’s myWings account. Scholarship renewal criteria requires student to complete all hours attempted and is contingent on continued funding. 

Transfer Scholarships

Who is eligible for Transfer Scholarships?

In order to qualify for the SWOOP Transfer Scholarship, students must:

  • Be a new incoming transfer student at UNF
  • Have a minimum 3.0 transfer GPA
  • Have earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree

In order to qualify for the SWOOP Blue Scholarship, students must:

  • Be a new incoming transfer student at UNF
  • Have a minimum 2.80 transfer GPA
  • Be eligible for the Pell Grant as determined by FAFSA
  • Majoring in an area of strategic emphasis*

In order to qualify for the SWOOP Gray Scholarship, students must:

  • Be a new incoming transfer student at UNF
  • Have a minimum 2.50 transfer GPA
  • Be eligible for the Pell Grant as determined by FAFSA

How much are the Transfer Scholarship awards?

The SWOOP Transfer Scholarship award is $6,000 ($3,000/year x 2 years)

The SWOOP Blue Scholarship award is $5,000 ($2,500/year x 2 years)

The SWOOP Gray Scholarship award is $3,000 ($1,500/year x 2 years)

How to apply for the Transfer Scholarships?

If you are applying for a UNF Enrollment Services scholarship, the application is available online via your myWings portal.

A few things to keep in mind when applying for a UNF Transfer Scholarship:

  • Students must submit a scholarship application to be considered for these awards. 
  • Scholarships are only available to students admitted to the summer or fall terms
  • A. A. degrees earned during high school through a dual enrollment program are not eligible
  • Applicants must be classified as a transfer student for admission purposes; having earned 12 or more college credits after graduating high school (dual enrollment credits do not count) 
  • Applicants must be incoming upper-level transfer students, with 60 or more transferable credit hours
  • Current students are not eligible 
  • Scholarships are awarded each year in May for the upcoming fall and spring terms
  • In order to be eligible for a scholarship, you must be admitted to UNF
  • Eligibility does not guarantee an award
