Many River City natives aren’t aware how hard it can be for
refugees to adapt to life on the First Coast. Dr. Leslie Kaplan, associate
director for the Hicks Honors College at UNF, talks to WJCT Public Radio about how
she is aiming to change that by getting her students to walk a mile in a
Drs. Tracy Alloway, associate professor, and Ross Alloway, research associate, both in the UNF Department of Psychology, share with Smithsonian.com that climbing a tree can benefit working memory or the processing of information.
UNF freshmen in the Hicks Honors College took part in a
refugee simulation, which places students in the position of refugees, homeless
and poor people by showing them the difficulties of finding work,
transportation, schools for their children and other life challenges. They shared their challenges with The Florida Times-Union.
