2024/2025 Housing Standby List Information for Rising Sophomores and Above

As seen around the nation, demand of on-campus housing is extremely high. While the University desires to house all students who wish to live on campus, with such high demand the University must focus on those students who need on-campus housing while they are first establishing connections and getting acclimated to campus and the community.

While the University was able to accept housing contracts from rising sophomores and above for a time, as of  March 4, 2024 Housing and Residence Life is only accepting Academic Year 2024/2025 Housing Contracts from newly admitted first-year students.

When demand is higher than bed space availability, Housing and Residence Life will utilize a standby list to accept additional housing contracts and assign bed space that may open up through contract cancellations after room selection processes have ended and continuing into the Fall 2024 semester.

4/29/2024 UPDATE:  Housing and Residence Life is providing an additional opportunity for rising sophomore students and above to express interest in joining the existing Standby List for Fall 2024/Spring 2025 housing.


The Housing and Residence Life standby list request for rising sophomores and above will open on the following dates/times:

At the appropriate date/time, the standby list request form for each gender will be posted on this webpage (as opposed to logging into myHousing).

The specific links that will be posted on this page will not be visible until the specific date and times listed above. Please note, it may be necessary to clear your internet browser history for the link to be visible once posted.

Based on high demand, it is anticipated both lists will only be open a short time as Housing and Residence Life only anticipates accepting approx. 100 students on each gender-specific standby list. Once the threshold in submissions is reached, the ability to accept additional standby list requests will end. Housing and Residence Life cannot predict how long each list will be open as it is based on individual students choosing to participate.

Please note the following:

  • Housing and Residence Life does not guarantee the ability to meet all demand to be on a standby list.

  • Being on a standby list does not guarantee a housing contract or placement into a bed space.

  • The standby list priority order will be solely based on the date/time of each student's individual standby list submission.

  • As housing contract cancellation activity depends on individual student decisions, Housing and Residence Life cannot predict how many housing contract cancellations may be received over time leading up to and after the start of the Fall 2024 semester.

  • The standby list is not for a space in any specific housing area or specific bed type but rather a list that, if space becomes available via cancellation activity in any housing area (including first-year housing areas), is the order in which students will be assigned a bed space.

  • There is no guarantee any student on a standby list will be assigned a bed space.

  • Housing and Residence Life cannot guide any student with regard to what the possibilities are that any student on a standby list will or will not be assigned a bed.

  • If a student is able to add themselves to a standby list, the student will have to make their own personal decision as to how long they choose to stay on the list.

  • Any student who wants to live on campus but is only interested in living in a specific community or in a specific bed type is encouraged to not attempt to join a standby list.

  • Housing and Residence Life anticipates continuing to maintain standby list until September 13, 2024.
