Teaching Secondary Education

Overview

The Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education is designed for individuals who possess a baccalaureate degree and desire to teach secondary English, Math, Social Studies, or Biology/Chemistry/Physics. For individuals who are interested in additional funding and can commit to teaching in Duval county for 3 years after graduation, please refer to our JTR site for additional information.

Concentrations

The Teaching Secondary Education program offers optional concentrations in:

  • Biology Teaching
  • Chemistry Teaching
  • Social Studies Teaching
  • Mathematics Teaching
  • English/ESOL Teaching
  • Physics Teaching

The following items must be submitted no later then the deadline posted above. Incomplete applications with outstanding requirements, or those post-marked after the posted deadline, are subject to cancellation. Once an application has been canceled, the decision can not be reversed. Applicants may apply for the next application cycle.

  • UNF admission application
  • Application fee
  • If applicable, collection holds and judicial holds must be cleared
  • All of the below university and program requirements
  • University Requirements
    • A baccalaureate degree from an accepted institutional accreditor, or its equivalent from a foreign institution, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all work attempted in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate study.
    • Transcripts, and foreign evaluations if applicable, from all post-secondary institutions attended. Admitted students will be prompted to provide official copies. 
  • Program Requirements
    • Certification
      • Passing score on the Subject Area Exam of the Florida Teacher Certification Exam in one of the following areas:
        • 6-12 Biology
        • 6-12 Chemistry
        • 6-12 Physics
        • 6-12 Mathematics
        • 6-12 Social Science
        • 6-12 English
