Thesis and Dissertation

The purpose of the thesis or dissertation is to show evidence of the graduate student’s development as a consumer of research and knowledge. The process of writing a thesis or dissertation begins early, at the stage of formulating a research question. Different programs have varying formatting policies and adhere to different style manuals. Please contact your thesis or dissertation chair for specific requirements. Students must be mindful of these program-specific policies. Where a program’s deadlines are earlier than those listed here, the program-specific timelines take precedence.

Thesis/Dissertation Canvas

The University of North Florida's Graduate School provides comprehensive guidance for submitting theses, dissertations, and doctoral projects. All relevant information is accessible through The Graduate School's Thesis and Dissertation Canvas site.

The Graduate School’s Thesis & Dissertation Canvas

All forms and necessary submissions related to a thesis, dissertation, or doctoral project must be submitted via the Canvas page. This includes documentation and approvals additional to the final submission, which will occur in Digital Commons. Please note that any supplemental requirements specific to your program should be discussed directly with your committee members and may require separate submission procedures.

If you have any questions or need to be added to The Graduate School’s Thesis & Dissertation Canvas course, please contact the Graduate School’s Coordinator, Lucy Hollins, at l.hollins@unf.edu

Committee Requirements

Each thesis or dissertation committee must include members of the University of North Florida Graduate Faculty. If a non-graduate faculty member is proposed, the department must complete the required forms. To include an external committee member, students must submit an additional form along with the individual’s CV or résumé. These are located on The Graduate School’s Thesis & Dissertation Canvas course.
