Previous Signature and Partnership Events

Our Signature Events consist of all events that are hosted by the Dean of Students Office. For most of our Signature Events we have reached out to University Partners for a collaborative approach to these often difficult themes.

Our Partnership Events consist of all events that are hosted by our University partners who have reached out to the Dean of Students Office to assist in facilitating, promoting, and educating the UNF community about various topics. Below are examples of previous Partnership Events.

  • Fall 2023

    Red Zone

    The Red Zone is a time of statistically heightened instances of sexual assault that happen during the first part of the fall semester on college campuses. Here at UNF, we want all Ospreys to understand how to meet people in safe environments, maintain healthy relationships, utilize their on-campus resources, and work together to prevent sexual misconduct.

    Market Days: WED AUG 23- WED SEPT 27
    Find us at Market Days to learn about the Red Zone, required training for students, and our schedule of events.
    Red Zone Exhibit: THURS AUG 24 
    Stop by our interactive exhibit to learn more about the Red Zone and see art created by members of the UNF community.
    Red Zone Panel Event: WED SEPT 6
    Join our panel of campus partners to answer questions and spark dialogue around the “red zone” and our resources and response at UNF.
    Talking Series: TUES SEPT 19 
    An interactive event to gain a deeper understanding of the Red Zone and our collective campus outlook about sexual violence prevention.
    Bystander Intervention Training: THURS SEPT 28
    A training event to understand what it means to be a bystander and how to act proactively.

    National Hazing Prevention Week

      Sign-making campaign while watching hazing prevention videos.
    • SPEAK Your Truth: Tuesday September 26th
      Roundtable discussion about Florida hazing cases.
    • SHARE the MessageWednesday September 27th
      Silent March will occur at 11:30a; sign the Pledge Against Hazing at the DOS Table.
    • SNAP a Picture for National Gordie DayThursday September 28th
      Wear purple for prevention and tag @unfdos and @hazingprevention
    • SOLVE the Answers to Trivia: Friday September 29th
      Engage with @unfdos for hazing prevention and education and post your organization's instagram picture in your story.

    Don't Drink & Fly Campaign

    • Market Days: Wednesday, October 18 from 10a-2p (Osprey Plaza)
    • Pumpkin Spice and Saving Lives: Wednesday, October 25 from 6p-9p (Osprey Plaza)
    • Tabling: Tuesday, October 31 from 2p-4p (Outside Building 57)

    Alcohol and substance abuse is a nationwide issue that has been growing over the past several years, and we see it in college-aged students. Join us for our Don't Drink & Fly campaign, where students can compete in trivia and win prizes while learning about alternative methods to engaging in alcohol and other substances. Answer a trivia question and then enjoy mocktails, treats & prizes! We hope to see you there!

    Take Back the Night

    Wednesday, October 4, 2023 | 4:30pm-8:00pm

    Starts in Peace Plaza, ends in Osprey Plaza

    Take Back The Night (TBTN) is a worldwide initiative to take a stand against domestic violence and UNF participates in this movement by hosting our own Take Back the Night event. For more details, see our Take Back The Night Page

    #OspreysDontHaze

    WED MAR 29: 10AM-2PM

    Join the Dean of Students Office in partnership with Athletics, First-Year Advising, and Housing and Residence Life in raising awareness about Hazing and participate in our upcoming event.

    Stop by our #OspreysDontHaze table to learn more and be directed towards the event to learn more about the various categories of hazing, how to report, and to sign the “These Hands Don’t Haze” Pledge and Banner. We look forward to seeing you there!

  • Fall 2022

    Don't Drink & Fly

    Wednesday, October 19 | 4:30-6:30pm | Student Union, Boathouse

    Alcohol and substance abuse is a nationwide issue that has been growing over the past several years, and we see it in college-aged students. Join us for the first annual Don't Drink & Fly Event, where students can compete in trivia and win prizes while learning about alternative methods to engaging in alcohol and other substances. Enjoy mocktails, food & prizes! Hosted by the Dean of Students Office, in collaboration with RecWell and Student Government. See you there, the fun begins at 4:30pm!

    Learn Your Communication Style Button Campaign

    Civil Discourse. Respectful Conversation. Want to learn more about how to have a respectful conversation about a challenging topic? Visit the Dean of Students Office table during Market Days throughout the Fall 2022 semester to find out your Communication Style and it’s correlating animal! Are you a Collaborating Owl or a Competing Lion? Take a fun and quick quiz to find out and get a button!

    Ospreys Don't Haze

    National Hazing Prevention Week occurs annually in September with this year being September 19-23. Join the Dean of Students and other campus partners at the following events:

    • Show Your Stuff: MON SEPT 19
      • Come create signs for the Silent March Against Hazing.
      • Watch the documentary Breathe, Nolan, Breathe.
    • Better Together: Silent March: WED SEPT 21
      • Take the walk to show that #OspreysDontHaze.
    • Market Day Activities: WED SEPT 21
      • Sign the Pledge Against Hazing at the Dean of Students Office table.
      • Join the Greek Ambassadors for a "These Hands Don't Haze" awareness event.
    • National Gordie Day: THURS SEPT 22
      • Engage with the @unfdos account to answer hazing-related trivia questions.
      • All participants are entered to win a prize!

  • Fall 2021: Red Zone Programming

    The Red Zone is the time period from the start of fall semester to Thanksgiving break when more than 50% of campus sexual assaults occur. In order to raise awareness of this alarming statistic, the Office of Student Accountability & Resolution has partnered with the Victim Advocate and is hosting a series of events during the first 5 weeks of the fall semester

  • Fall 2022: The Meetup

    Connect with fellow Ospreys & Discover what resources are available on campus!
    Tuesday, September 6, 2022
    Osprey Plaza | 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
    Games | Giveaways | Snacks | Music

    The Meetup is hosted during the first couple weeks of fall, spring, and summer semesters. This event provides an informal and relaxed space to assist students of diverse backgrounds in building a sense of community from the onset of their collegiate experience. Students are invited to mix and mingle with students, faculty and staff from across campus, as they learn about resources and programs specifically designed to address their needs.

  • Spring 2022: Grate-FUL
    In partnership with Dining Services, the Dean of Students Office participated in the Tabling Event held in the OSprey Cafe on Wednesday, April 27 from 11a-2p. Along with other departments, our office had fun questions and take-aways for students to engage in to help them gain a better understanding of all of the offerings within the Dean of Students.
  • Spring 2022: 'Sprey Break
    Sprey Break was an event hosted this year by Osprey PERCH in partnership with the Dean of Students Office, Recreation & Wellness, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Osprey Life & Productions, UPD, Angel Russell, the Safe Sex Fairy, MADD, and One Blood. This event occurred on Tuesday, March 8 from 11a-3p in the Osprey Plaza. There were free 80’s themed mocktails and recipes, alcohol and substance use info, free t-shirts and fanny packs, mental health resources, and much more. ‘Sprey Break was a unique way for these departments to remind the UNF students/community about different ways to have fun during Spring Break.
  • Spring 2022: Consent Carnival
    The Dean of Students Office joined the Victim Advocacy Program and LGBTQ Center for Market Days during Sex Week to put on a Consent Carnival for the UNF community. This event was created and hosted in order to inform the UNF community about what consent means and to bring awareness to consent and sexual wellness. The mission of this event was to engage the UNF community with sexual wellness and consent. There were multiple booths which held activities, such as Consent Jenga, Consent Word Search, Mocktails for Alcohol Awareness, and more. 
  • Spring 2022: Fresh Check Day
    The Dean of Students Office joined Housing and Residence Life and the Jordan Porco Foundation to host Fresh Check Day, a program dedicated to bringing awareness about mental health. The primary focus of this event is suicide prevention and bystander intervention.
