Frequently Asked Questions

The Department of Psychology's main office operates from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns that are not addressed on this page, we encourage you to reach out to the Main Office during these hours.
  • Who is the best person I should talk to about the courses I should take?
The appropriate person to discuss your course selection with depends on your academic standing. If you are a freshman or sophomore, you should reach out to the First Year Advising office. They specialize in guiding underclassmen through their initial years and helping them plan their academic paths. For juniors and seniors, it is recommended to contact the COAS Advising office. They are equipped to assist upperclassmen with more advanced academic planning and ensuring that all major and graduation requirements are met.
  • Who should I talk to about doing research?
To find out about joining a research group, it's essential to speak individually with each faculty member regarding the type of research they conduct. They can inform you if they have space for new members in their group. Keep in mind that most faculty members have specific requirements for joining their research teams, so be prepared to meet those criteria.
  • Who do I need to contact about an override for registering for a class?
For assistance with receiving an override for a course, you need to contact Dr. Elizabeth Brown, the Department Assistant Chair. When reaching out, be sure to describe your situation in detail and explain why you need the override. Please note that overrides are granted on a case-by-case basis, and there is no guarantee that your request will be approved.
  • Who should I contact to reserve the conference room?

To reserve the Department of Psychology's Conference Room (Building 51, Room 3102), please email the Main Office with the following information:

    1. Your name and N#.
    2. The desired date and time for the reservation.

Please note that your requested date and time may not always be available. It is advisable to have a few alternative dates and times in mind.
