Summer Contact Minute Requirements

Summer courses need to have at least 2,400 contact minutes total (there is no final exam week in the summer term).

  • Full Term classes (12 weeks) need to meet 2x per week for 100 minutes each
    • 200 minutes per week x 12 weeks = 2,400 total contact minutes
  • Summer A or B classes can meet 4x per week for 100 minutes each or 2x per week for 210 minutes each
    • 400 minutes per week x 6 weeks = 2,400 total contact minutes
    • 422 minutes per week x 6 weeks = 2,532 total contact minutes
      • 10 minute breaks each meeting period are taken into account
  • 8-week classes need to meet 3x per week (MWF or TRF) for 100 minutes each
    • 300 minutes per week x 8 weeks = 2,400 total contact minutes
  • 10-week classes need to meet 2x per week + 4 Fridays (MW[F] or TR[F]) for 100 minutes each
    • 200 minutes per week x 10 weeks = 2,000 total contact minutes
      • Plus
    • 100 minutes x 4 Fridays = 400 minutes = 2,400 total contact minutes

Time Block Exceptions

If a class needs to be scheduled outside of a standard time block, a "Request for Scheduling Exception" form will need to be filled out, signed, and submitted to the Associate Registrar.

A blank "Request for Scheduling Exception" form can be found in the "Scheduling" folder of the Global (N:) Drive.

The Section Details section must be completely filled out, a justification for the exception must be fully detailed, and signatures from the instructor, department Chair and Dean must be collected.
