Learning for a Lifetime at UNF

The Learning for a Lifetime (LFL) program is designed to promote the increasing desire for knowledge among experienced citizens of our First Coast community. The LFL program allows Florida resident senior citizens to audit college-level courses, and their tuition and fees will be waived. There are no application fees, course limits or grades in the LFL program.

Click on the following link and then choose the UNF Application option. After creating an application account and when prompted to select the type of program, choose the Non-Degree Seeking option.

Apply for LFL

Admission

For consideration as an LFL student, you must be:

  • a Florida resident
  • sixty years of age or above
  • admitted and classified as a senior citizen by the Office of Admissions prior to registering for classes

An application and a Residency Declaration are required for all new Learning for a Lifetime participants and for those returning after breaking continuous enrollment (not taking classes for three consecutive terms). All students must also submit immunization information when first joining the program.

Students must apply to the Learning for a Lifetime program using the online application. Please Note: You must be admitted prior to the designated LFL Registration Day. Students will not be able to submit an LFL application the day of registration. Deadlines are subject to change.

Selecting Courses

UNF Course Catalog

Courses may only be taken on a space-available basis. LFL students may not use their fee waiver for MAT 1033, dissertation, thesis, practicum, independent study, applied music, supervised research, supervised teaching or internship courses.

Restrictions may limit an LFL's course selection, which are listed in the University catalog and on the course schedule. Our system prevents students from adding restricted courses to their schedule. If you are interested in taking a course with a restriction, you must contact the department offering the course prior to registration. If you provide written approval from the academic department, or from a professor in the appropriate academic advising office, an override will be assigned, allowing you to register for a restricted course on the designated registration day.

Registration

There is a specific registration day for admitted LFL students. For tuition fees to be waived, you must register for courses on the designated LFL registration day. LFL students can self-register in myWings or come into One-Stop Student Services (Hicks Hall: Building 53, 1st Floor) for assistance. Be sure to first check the One-Stop webpage for walk-in and appointment information. Once registered, follow the instructions below to change the grade mode designation to "Audit". Please note that some classes are not permitted to be taken in audit grade mode.

**IMPORTANT**: If you register for classes before the assigned registration day, you will be responsible for all tuition and fees.

Most fees are automatically waived, unless you registered for courses for which you will receive credit. Your student account will show a balance due until the fee waiver has been applied. The fee system generally updates during the week following the Add/Drop period. Fee waivers are not available to senior citizens taking any courses for credit.

As an LFL student, you are responsible for the following fees:

  • Classes you register for prior to LFL registration day
  • Late fees incurred by registering during the Late Registration period as noted on the Academic Calendar
  • Lab and/or studio fees associated with certain courses
  • Course material fees
  • Parking permit fees (purchased online)
Fees not covered by the LFL waiver must be paid by the payment deadline listed in the Academic Calendar; late payments are subject to a $100 late payment fee, which is not covered by the LFL waiver.
