2026-2027 Out-of-State Tuition and Housing Cost Increases

Tuition and housing rates are now set for the Fall 2026-2027 academic year. On June 23, UNF’s Board of Trustees approved increases to student housing rental rates and out-of-state tuition-related fees beginning Fall 2026. Two years ago, the Florida Board of Governors provided approval for state universities to increase out-of-state fees for two years only. UNF did not increase out-of-state tuition-related fees last year. The approved changes for this academic year will help address rising operational, instructional, maintenance and student support costs while preserving UNF’s commitment to quality, affordability and student success.

Key Facts

  • The UNF Board of Trustees approved a 15% increase to the Non-Resident Undergraduate and Non-Resident Graduate out-of-state fee and related financial aid fee, effective Fall 2026. This is the first UNF increase since 2013.
  • The UNF Board of Trustees also approved a 5% Housing and Residence Life rental rate increase for academic year 2026–2027 and authorization for future increases for 2027–2028 and 2028–2029 that may not exceed 5%.
  • The housing increase will address rising operational and maintenance costs, current and projected expenses, and continued investment in the residential student experience.
  • The out-of-state fee increase will support instruction, salaries, benefits and university operational costs.
  • What changes did the UNF Board of Trustees approve?

The UNF Board of Trustees approved a 15% increase to the out-of-state fee and related financial aid fee for non-resident undergraduate and graduate students beginning in Fall 2026. The Board also approved a 5% increase to Housing and Residence Life rental rates for academic year 2026–2027, with future annual housing increases for academic years 2027–2028 and 2028–2029 not to exceed 5%.

  • Why did UNF seek these increases?

UNF sought these increases to help the University address rising costs while continuing to provide a high-quality education and a strong student experience. Tuition and fees help fund instruction, salaries, benefits and operational costs. Housing rental rates help cover the cost of operating, maintaining and improving residential facilities.

  • When will the approved changes take effect?

The approved out-of-state fee increase and housing rental rate increase will take effect in Fall 2026.

  • Who will be affected by the approved out-of-state tuition-related increase and what is the impact?

The approved out-of-state fee increase will apply to non-resident undergraduate and graduate students. The impact is an increase of $72.03 per credit hour for undergraduates and $82.61 per credit hour for graduate students. The impact on differential tuition programs varies based on the program. These changes do not apply to Florida residents.

  • Will in-state tuition increase as part of this approval?

No. The approved tuition-related increase is focused on non-resident undergraduate and graduate out-of-state fees and the related financial aid fee. The approval does not increase Florida resident tuition.

  • Why are housing rates increasing?

Housing and Residence Life requested the increase because of inflationary operational and maintenance costs, current and projected expenses, and the need to continue investing in the residential student experience. The funds collected will support housing operations, maintenance needs and improvements that benefit students living on campus.

  • How much can housing rates increase in future years?

The Board approved a 5% housing rental rate increase for academic year 2026–2027 and authorized that future rental rate increases for academic years 2027–2028 and 2028–2029 will not exceed 5% per year.

  • How does UNF remain committed to affordability?

UNF remains focused on providing a high-quality education at a strong value, offering financial aid and numerous scholarships for need, merit and other criteria. The University also provides additional student support services and career-connected opportunities that help students complete their degrees and prepare for success after graduation.

  • What was the approval process?
