The Chemistry Tuneup Program

What is the Tune-Up program? Chemistry is offering a program to help our students succeed in Chemistry. The Chemistry faculty have found students that are struggling in the course after the first exam are less likely to complete CHM2045 with a C or better. For that reason, Chemistry is offering a “tune-up” that allows the student to transfer out of CHM2045 and into CHM1025 (Introduction to Chemistry). This will allow the student to acquire the skills and knowledge needed for success prior to re-enrolling in CHM2045 the following semester.

How will this benefit me? If you are struggling this semester, you can avoid the Withdraw on your transcript and move to CHM1025, which is offered in Spring 2H term (March 4 – May 2). You will not be given a withdraw on your transcript for CHM2045 as long as you choose this option by 5 pm on February 15th. You can only use this option once.

How do I use this option? Complete the following three steps:

  1. The student will need to schedule a meeting with their advisor no later than 5 pm on February 15th and let them know you are signing up for the Chemistry Tune-Up option.
  2. The student will complete the Student Petition of Academic Policy by 5 pm on February 15th.
  3. Once approved, the registrar will switch the student automatically from CHM2045 to CHM1025.
  4. The student will also be registered for the co-requisite study skills course, CHM1024, in addition to CHM1025.

When is the deadline? The student must file a Student Petition of Academic Policy by 5 pm on February 15th. This must be approved by their advisor, the instructor and the Chair. These approvals will take place only for submitted forms one or two business days following the deadline.

When is CHM1025? CHM1025 in Spring 2H term is a fully online course.

When is CHM1024? CHM1024 is a face-to-face course with regular class meetings on campus Thursday’s 5 – 5:50 pm each week.

Do I need other course materials? No, the student will not need to purchase other materials.

What does it cost? Nothing.

Do I have to withdraw from my lab course? No, you can stay enrolled in CHM2045L, but you are responsible for the material.

Should I continue to attend CHM2045? Yes, you should still attend your CHM2045 course until CHM1025 starts on March 4th. This will benefit you in the long run.

Do I have to take CHM2045 in the following semester? Yes, once you complete the Tune Up Course successfully, you should register for CHM2045 the following semester.
