Program Description

COSMA Accredited Institution logoThe Bachelor of Science in Sport Management is a 120-credit hour program designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in the fast-paced and ever-evolving sport industry. Reflecting the growing demand for skilled professionals in sport and recreation, this program provides a solid academic foundation in sport management principals, practices, and leadership. The program is accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), ensuring a high standard of academic quality and industry relevance.

Students engage in coursework that explores a wide range of topics relevant to the sport industry, including facility and event management, sport marketing, organizational behavior, and legal aspects of sport.  All Sport Management majors are required to declare a minor. Students must consult an academic advisor to select a minor that complements their career goals. Available minors include: business management, marketing, leadership, community and sport tourism, fitness management, mass communications, or communication studies.

  • Course Catalog

The course catalog details the the essential coursework required for the Bachelor of Science in Sport Management, guiding your journey toward a successful career in the sports industry. 
  • Minors

    All Sport Management majors are required to declare a minor as part of their degree program. Students must meet with an academic advisor to officially select and add one of the approved minors listed below.

    Choose one of the following 12-credit hour minors:

    • Business Management
    • Marketing
    • Leadership
    • Community Sport & Tourism
    • Fitness Management

    Note: Students may also choose either the Mass Communication or Communication Studies minor, which each require 15 credit hours.

Our Bachelor of Science in Sport Management program is accredited by COSMA.

    The COSMA Accredited Sport Management program is reflective of the fast-paced and growing sports industry across the country. The program of study provides an academic foundation in sports management for application in a variety of sports settings. Of further significance is that students receive valuable employment training though practicum and internship experiences in chosen settings including: college recreation or athletic programs, community recreation agencies, sport organizations or business, sport facilities, and professional sports teams.

    The Executive in Residence (EIR) Program brings accomplished industry professionals to campus to share their expertise and insights with students. This unique initiative creates a vital connection between classroom learning and real-world experience, enriching the curriculum with practical knowledge and firsthand perspectives. Through the EIR Program, students gain access to role models, career mentorship, and guidance on work placement opportunities. By bridging the gap between academia and the professional field, the program plays a key role in preparing graduates to enter the workforce with confidence and a competitive edge.

Career Outlook

Graduates with a Bachelors of Science in Sport Management are well-prepared for a wide range of careers in both professional and amateur athletics, recreation, and sports business. Many go on to work in areas such as team operations, event and facility management, marketing and promotions, or athlete representation. Others pursue roles with sport leagues, college athletic departments, fitness organizations, and community recreation programs. With a versatile skill set and hands-on experience, our graduates are equipped to lead and innovate in the ever-changing world of sports.
