Ed Austin Fellowship

Purpose

Established in 1996 by friends to honor former state attorney and Jacksonville mayor, Ed Austin. This fellowship is awarded to graduate students pursuing degrees in government studies, such as a master’s in public administration.

Criteria

  1. Students eligible for such scholarships must: a. Have met the admissions requirements of the University of North Florida Graduate School and have been accepted into the university,
    • Have met the admission requirements of the University of North Florida Graduate School and have been accepted into the university, 
    • Admitted graduate student in the UNF MPA program,
    • Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on all graduate courses taken in the MPA program (if an applicant has not yet taken UNF graduate courses, then the GPA of last 60 hours of the applicant’s baccalaureate degree will be substituted for this requirement).
     
  2. Students awarded this scholarship must also agree to: a. Enroll for minimum of 6 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters of the scholarship year, and earn a minimum of 12 credit hours by the end of each academic year;

    • Maintain an MPA program GPA of 3.0,
    • Comply with all University regulations, rules, and codes of conduct governing students on campus,
    • Consent to release grades to the Division of Institutional Advancement for the purpose of reporting to the donor, and
    • Remain in good standing as a student
     
  3. Required Application Attachments a. An applicant must submit an original 3-5 page essay on a topic related to public leadership, local government, public law, public ethics, the public interest, or the public career of Ed Austin;

    • An applicant must submit a separate one-page statement indicating the goals and aspirations that the applicant has for public, community or non-profit service.
