James Hogan

Part-Time Faculty, Guitar

Man holding blue guitarJames Hogan is known by many as a "world class" guitarist. He is an artist who is regarded highly by his peers and is in constant demand as a touring sideman, studio musician and producer. Hogan has gained worldwide recognition for his musicality, soulfulness and rare ability to play authentically at the highest level in all styles of contemporary music. 

Hogan’s musicianship and professionalism have landed him gigs with some of the top artists in the music business. James Hogan has recorded and/or performed with such artists as David Sanborn, Bob Mintzer, Dave Brubeck, Frank Gambale, Eric Marienthal, Mitchell Forman, Mike Miller, Alex Acuna, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Kurt Elling, Diane Schur, Jane Monheit, Idina Menzel, Bernadette Peters, Jennifer Holliday, The Manhattans, The Drifters, The Coasters, Buddy Miles, Al Jorgensen, Chuck Schuldiner, Enrique Iglesias, The Jacksonville Symphony, The Florida Orchestra, The Savannah Symphony, The Naples Symphony, Broadway productions of Little Shop Of Horrors, The Best Little Whore House In Texas, Grease, Godspell, among others.

James has recorded on 100’s of studio sessions and performed on thousands of club dates. He has performed in such venues as the Hollywood Bowl, North Sea Jazz Festival, Van’s Warped Tour, Universal Amphitheater, Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Clearwater Jazz Festival, Savannah Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Crown Of The Continent Guitar Festival, Univision (Sabado Gigante), Sunfest, Super Bowl XXXIX and MTV’s "Beach House.”

In addition to a successful music career, James Hogan is also a fine music teacher. James is currently an Adjunct Professor at The University Of North Florida and at Florida State College where he has been on staff since 2000. James was a Senior Instructor at The National Guitar Workshop's Florida, Connecticut, Nashville, Washington D.C. and SUNY Purchase campuses from 1998-2012. Additionally, Hogan teaches guitar seminars across the U.S. and abroad each year and has published articles in Guitar Player, Guitar World and Premier Guitar magazines. James Hogan's Guitar Instructional DVD’s are available through www.truefire.com and at music stores world wide. 

James Hogan holds a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Performance (Summa Cum Laude) from the highly acclaimed University of North Florida Jazz Performance program, where he was a Collegiate Downbeat Award winner, full scholarship recipient and student of jazz guitar virtuoso Barry Greene (2000).
