2023 Spring Statewide Survey

Call for Question Submission

Research questions on a budget? Need original data from a large-N telephone survey? Look no further than PORL’s semi-annual Florida Statewide Omnibus Survey.

The Spring 2023 Statewide Survey will be fielded from February 20 – March 5, 2023. The final sample will include a minimum of 500 completed survey responses from a random selection of registered Florida voters. We will also be conducting a concurrent local survey of Duval County likely voters, if that sample better fits your research needs.

A minimum of two (2) survey questions may be submitted. PORL will assist with question wording, as needed.

About the Survey

  • Study purpose: to provide faculty with opportunities for low-cost data collection, promote inter-disciplinary collaboration, and provide UNF students experiential learning opportunities.
  • Methodology:
    • PORL has a 27-station polling lab that uses Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI). To ensure a representative sample, surveys are conducted in both English and Spanish, calls are made from 4:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. 7-days a week.
    • The sampling frame consists of registered Florida voters, and telephone numbers are sourced from the Florida Voter File.
    • N ≥ 500 completed surveys
    • All data are weighted by geography, age, sex, race/ethnicity, educational attainment, and party registration to reflect the population of registered Florida voters.
  • Deliverables:
    • Cleaned, weighted dataset containing your question responses and demographic variables, including gender, race/ethnicity, age, educational attainment, county of residence, media market, landline or cellphone designation, and party registration.
    • Full survey instrument and variable coding information, where applicable.
  • All survey questions used are subject to IRB approval. IRB applications are handled by PORL.

OR

In-kind student participation

In lieu of payment, faculty may provide 25 student interviewing shifts (as a points-earning course requirement, not extra credit), for every 2 questions submitted (4 questions = 50 shifts, 6 questions = 75 shifts, etc.).

Each shift requires a student commitment from 4:30pm – 9pm one night during the data collection period, as well as a mandatory 45-minute training session before the project begins. We can come to your class to conduct the training, or we can schedule additional out-of-class time training sessions in the lab.

Eligibility

  • Any faculty member from any UNF department may submit questions
  • Faculty using in- kind student participation must have assignment worked into the course syllabus. To ensure student participation is high and faculty is able to meet their 25-student shift quota, assignments must meet the following criteria:
    • Assignment must be worth a minimum 5% of course grade
    • If there is an alternate assignment option, it must take around 5.5 hours to complete

Timeline

  • The deadline for submission is by December 22 at 2 p.m.
  • Notifications of acceptance will be distributed by December 23 to allow faculty appropriate time to modify course syllabi.
  • The survey will be conducted February 20 to March 5, 2023.
