Division of Information Technology Services Announced

July 27, 2022

UNF’s Information Technology Services (ITS) has been elevated to a university division. The reorganization enhances efficiency and innovation across the university and provides high quality, reliable technology services and solutions to support academic excellence, student success, research and scholarly activities, and engagement.

Formerly in Administration and Finance , the new ITS division is composed of four primary departments under the Office of the CIO:

  • Office of the CIO: Information Technology Services (ITS) is a division within UNF and is the centralized source of technology support for the entire UNF community. The mission of ITS is to strategically deliver technology solutions to the community to enable innovative research, teaching and learning at a culturally diverse and technologically oriented university, through service, partnership, and protection of information assets. The ITS vision is to enable innovation by proactively providing high quality, reliable technology services and solutions to support academic excellence, student success, research and scholarly activities, and engagement.

  • Office of Campus Technology Services complements the other departments in ITS with support and delivery of ITS Services and a quality technology experience for the entire UNF Campus Community; support provided across a wide range of areas including academic and research technology, service management operations, client and technology support and audio-visual and conferencing; endpoint management, and UNF Help Desk services.

  • Office of Information Security and Cyberinfrastructure provides effective, efficient, and forward-looking services to the campus community to protect UNF’s data, systems and intellectual property; manages risk; provides network and voice services; manages the university’s server infrastructure and productivity applications; and supports the university’s research computing needs.

  • Office of Enterprise Systems develops and maintains alignment of software and data solutions with university strategy and operations. Solutions support and enable administrative, instructional, research and outreach activities of the university.

  • Office of Project and Portfolio Management manages complex, cross-functional IT projects for the university; provides expert services, facilitates governance and promotes the value of project management and business analysis across the University.

A year ago, UNF hired its first Vice President and CIO, Brian Verkamp, to provide strategic leadership and vision for the university’s technology infrastructure, assets, security, compliance and services. The reorganization provides greater focus and structure to support the educational, research, service and administrative activities of students, faculty and staff today and for the future.

With staff of more than 100 employees, the division provides real-world experience for students employing an average of 30-35 each year in security, engineering, networking, software development, and IT Help Desk technicians.
