UNF Online has partnered with Tutor.com to provide 24/7 no-cost tutoring services for students in completely online programs. Access is integrated into Canvas, so eligible students will be able to access it inside their class module.

The University of North Florida offers online tutoring via Tutor.com to all students currently enrolled in the following online programs:

  • What tutoring services does Tutor.com offer?

    UNF Online students in the programs noted above have 24/7 access to no-cost, online, and unlimited drop-in tutoring support, scheduled support, and drop-off writing review service.

    Tutoring sessions feature:

    • 24/7 support available for 1-on-1 tutoring and drop-off review services. Connect with your tutor via two-way text chat or voice- you choose!
    • Multimodal functionality including text, voice, or video options for your tutor session.
    • Personalized user dashboard: Add Tutors to your Favorites list to schedule future tutoring sessions or see when they will be available next. All previous sessions remain viewable on your account, so you can view transcripts or replay sessions from your homepage.
    • Tutoring sessions occur in the easy-to-use online classroom, in your web browser.

    Tutor.com also offers self-guided reviews through their Test Prep and Self Study section. From here learners can utilize study resources including flashcards, learning games, worksheets, and practice quizzes. You can use practice quizzes to help assess strengths or challenges in a subject area and connect directly with a tutor after completing a quiz for a more in-depth explanation as well.

  • Can I review previous tutoring sessions?

    Yes! All tutoring sessions and writing feedback are saved and available for you to review anytime. To do so, click on “My Account” and select the “Completed Sessions” option. You will be able to view transcripts or rewatch videos of any previous sessions.

  • How do I access and use Tutor.com?

    To access Tutor.com, log into your Canvas course and click on “Tutor.com” which is located on the left menu within your course.

    You can manage your account by clicking on “My Account” in the upper right-hand corner. Here you can view any upcoming scheduled tutoring sessions and previous tutoring sessions. You can also navigate directly to tutors you have saved as your favorite.

  • Why don’t I see the Tutor.com link in my course?

    Currently, Tutor.com is only available for courses within the following online programs:

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing: RN-BSN Bridge Track
    • Master of Science in American Sign Language/English Interpreting
    • Master of Science in Nursing Education
    • Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Administration
    • Master of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics Online

  • What will I see in Canvas (Tutor.com homepage)?

    The Tutor.com homepage includes links to set up your user account and access all Tutor.com services. These include scheduling a tutor session, the drop off writing review center, available tutors by subject area, and the test prep and study section. Once you set up your Tutor.com user account, you will have access to view previous tutoring sessions, as well as start saving tutors to your Favorites list to quickly re-book them for future sessions.

  • What devices can I use, and what are the technical requirements?

    Supported web browsers include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Apple Safari.

    Tech Support Tips:

    • Tutor.com requires you to disable your pop-up blocker.
    • If you have issues opening the virtual classroom, clear your browser’s cache. You can do this in the top right corner by navigating to “Settings” in your browser.
    • Streaming video, downloading files, or playing games in another browser window—or on another computer that shares your internet connection, impacts the ability to connect to the virtual classroom.

  • Are my Tutor.com sessions secure?

    Yes, Tutor.com complies with all applicable safety and security regulations and has a quality specialist team to ensure the integrity of any tutoring session. Your tutor does not receive any personal information aside from your first name.

    Learners also have control over how to communicate with their tutor during sessions: by text chat, voice, or video.

  • How do I setup Tutor.com in my Canvas course?

    If you teach a course in one of the approved programs, Tutor.com is available to you and your students.

    Note: Instructors need to enable the Tutor.com app in their Canvas course before students can access it.

    To enable Tutor.com in your Canvas course, please follow these steps:

    1. In your Canvas course, select the Settings on your Class Navigation Menu.
    2. On the Settings page, scroll to the list of disabled pages until you see Tutor.com.
    3. Once you locate Tutor.com, pull it up into the Class Navigation Menu.
    4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the blue SAVE button.
  • How do students access Tutor.com?

    Once you have enabled it within each of your courses, students’ access the Tutor.com app from the left-hand menu within their Canvas course.

  • How does Tutor.com support online learners' growth?

    • Writing Center — You can submit writing assignments and receive a thorough analysis from a Tutor.com tutor, with a response arriving within 12 hours.
    • Drop-In Tutoring — Live tutoring help is available 24/7. You can search by subject area to find available tutors and work one-on-one with a Tutor.com tutor
    • Scheduled Tutoring — You can reserve a time to meet with a tutor that fits your schedule, or to schedule a time with a tutor you have previously worked with.
    • Offline Questions — The Test Prep and Self Study section allows learners to utilize study resources including flashcards, learning games, worksheets, practice quizzes, and more.
