Education Benefits

The Employee Education Program and the Tuition Scholarship Program allow UNF faculty, administrative, and support staff employees, as well as their spouses, dependents, or domestic partners, the opportunity to enroll in classes at UNF tuition-free. Refer to the FAQs below for more information about each program.
  • Who is eligible to participate in the Program?
The Employee Education Program is available to both full-time and part-time (0.5 FTE) faculty, administrative, and support staff employees that have been employed with the University for at least six months within a budgeted position and who are currently in good standing. The Program is not open to student employees, adjuncts, or other personnel services (OPS) employees. Resident Aliens and Non-Florida Residents must pay the out-of-state portion of their tuition.
  • What does the Program cover?

The Employee Education Program provides the following benefits:

    • For full-time employees - In-state tuition-free classes, up to six credit hours per semester, at UNF.
    • For part-time (0.5 FTE) employees - In-state tuition free classes, up to three credit hours per semester, at UNF.
  • What does the Program not cover?

Tuition will NOT be waived for the following types of courses:  non-credit, sponsored credit, audited courses, Continuing Education offerings. In addition, tuition will NOT be waived for courses that are required as part of a self-supporting program. The self-supporting programs currently offered at UNF are the RN-BSN Bridge Track (online 8-week) program; the Post-MSN Doctor of Nursing Practice (online 8-week) program, and the MS Nutrition & Dietetics Non-Internship (online traditional semester) program.

The Employee Education Program will NOT cover additional fees including, but not limited to, lab fees, the Wall Street Journal Fee, Week of Welcome Fee, Osprey ID Card Fee, Orientation Fee, Distance Learning Fee, or the state mandated Repeat Surcharge and Excess Hours fees. Costs above in-state tuition and fees are not covered. Resident Aliens and Non-Florida Residents must pay the out-of-state portion of their tuition.

  • Do I have to apply for admission to the University?
In order to participate in the Program, employees must apply for admission to UNF as either a degree or non-degree seeking student. Regular application deadlines and admission criteria apply. Once admitted to the University, employees must register for classes either online or in person at One Stop Student Services. Please visit the One Stop Student Services employee education program page for more information.
  • How are tuition payments posted?
The Employee Education Program will only waive the tuition costs for those eligible classes specifically listed on the Employee Education Program form. The tuition costs are paid up-front by the University, but will not appear on the employee's account until after the payment deadline.
  • What if I withdraw from a class that the Program paid for?
In the event that an employee withdraws from a class after the add/drop period, the employee will not be eligible to use the Employee Education Program benefit for the next semester. The employee does not have to repay the University for the waived tuition costs.
  • Are there any grade requirements for classes covered by the Program?
Continued participation requires individuals remain in Good Standing academically, as defined by UNF policy. Failure to meet the requirements will prevent the employee from using the Employee Education Program benefit for the next semester. The employee does not have to repay the University for the waived tuition costs.

  • Who is eligible to participate in the Program?
All faculty, administrative, and support staff employees are eligible to apply for the Tuition Exchange Program (TEP).
  • How does the Program work?
Employees can send their dependents to any of the 530 TEP institutions as “exports,” and the University of North Florida, in return, accepts the dependents of other members of TEP as our “imports.” UNF employees whose dependents are participating in TEP pay the equivalent of UNF tuition per academic year for the privilege of having the majority of their child’s tuition waived by the TEP institution they are attending (you still must pay room and board expenses, however). The amount that UNF employees pay for this benefit goes into a foundation account that allows UNF to pay the tuition (sometimes out-of-state tuition) for the students that we accept as our “imports.”
  • What school participate in the Program?
A list of participating TEP schools can be found on the Tuition Exchange Program web site. More information about the program and applications can be obtained from Meghan Hull, Enrollment Services, (904) 620-2881.
  • What happens if I terminate employment while using this benefit?
An employee must stay employed for over half of the semester for the benefit to continue through the end of that term. Please contact HR at 904-620-2903 if you have any questions.
