Environmental Science B.S. - Principles & Practice

Innovative Degrees, Real-World Impact

IERE's two new B.S. degrees in Environmental Science -  Environmental Natural Science and Environmental Principles & Practice - launched in spring 2025. These interdisciplinary degrees were developed in collaboration with IERE’s Joint Faculty and Community Council as a result of student and employer demand. A unique feature of both Environmental Science B.S. degrees is the integration of IERE’s student and research programs directly into the coursework—providing all students in the majors with real-world, hands-on experience throughout their academic journey. IERE also continues to support students across campus through the growing Environmental Studies minor, which is seeing rising interest and enrollment.

This program includes interdisciplinary environmental coursework and experiences with a focus on environmental studies including the political, economic, social, behavioral, and ethical aspects of environmental issues. This concentration will prepare students for graduate school and/or a career in environmental management, leadership, resilience, and decision-making.
