Smartphone Filmmaking Workshop
What’s the best camera to develop your filmmaking stills? The one you already own! With the help of an inexpensive app, you can shoot and edit film-quality videos with our smartphones. The quality of work you can produce is remarkable; easily up to the standards of social media, commercial and brand video work, documentary and narrative film work. Professional cinematographers design the look, color, lighting, and framing of every single shot in a film. You will learn the same techniques, unleashing and enhancing the creative filmmaking powers in your smartphone. You will learn to control exposure, frame rate, color temperature, depth of field, camera motion, ambient lighting and audio. This course is suitable for aspiring filmmakers, entrepreneurs, video storytellers, social media content creators and content producers.

Watercolor – Level I
This course introduces you to watercolor – no drawing experience is required! You will learn to utilize watercolor medium in traditional and non-traditional applications; apply fundamentals of color theory, composition, and experiment with textural techniques. Learn how to develop and celebrate your own individuality and creative style while you break through your fears and explore new observational views on environments for inspiration. Each weekly session will include an open forum on famous artists and feedback, Q&A, and your completion of one work of art.

This course is designed for intermediate beginners; some watercolor experience is helpful, but no drawing experience is required! You will advance toward more complex compositions, pen & ink enhancements and explore “improv” watercolor works! You will utilize basic watercolor techniques in traditional and nontraditional applications; apply fundamentals of color theory, composition, and experiment with textural techniques.

French – Level I
This conversationally focused beginning French class will cover the following topics: introductions, polite conversational structures, how to present yourself to a French-speaking person, how to ask and answer basic conversation-starters, how to express preferences, how to describe yourself and others, greetings and basic informational inquiries on various subjects. Cultural norms in everyday conversation will also be part of the presentation. No formal text is required for purchase, but various useful sources will be presented and discussed.

French – Level II
Build on communication skills developed in French - Level I. We will practice grammar for preferred activities, travel, hobbies, and experiences in both the past and present. Cultural emphasis will include travel, history, art, and cuisine in France and other French-speaking countries.

German – Level I
Guten Tag! If you are planning a trip to a German-speaking country, this course is for you. We'll focus on speaking and comprehending while learning German grammar in a clear and concise format. During this eight-week course, we'll cover basic greetings, directions, airport help, ordering food and shopping information. You will know how to talk about yourself and your family as well as explore contemporary life and culture in German-speaking countries.

In this course, a continuation of German Level I, you will build on your basic vocabulary and strengthen verb usage, particularly with the spoken past tense (present perfect). You will hone your pronunciation and listening skills through CDs, videos and current news stories from Germany. Increase your language proficiency in this beautiful language!

This “start at the beginning” course, will teach you how to capture great looking images with your DSLR or mirrorless camera. A broad introduction to digital photography geared towards a simple understanding of the fundamentals without too much science. You will learn techniques to improve your photography of any subject right away for social media or any other use you may have.

Basic Digital Photography II
The second in the basic digital photography series, Basic Digital Photography 2 is designed to build upon the basics. This course will move deeper into the basic concepts to teach you exactly what the camera is doing, which will allow you to gain more creative control over your images. You will learn in further detail the shooting modes so you can find the one that works best for you. Learn how to move from the camera default settings in metering, focus, and exposure as well as full coverage of all aspects of depth of field.

Digital Photography – Birds, Beaches & More at Huguenot
Join us for a relaxing and informative photography adventure at Huguenot Park. Cooler weather, coupled with the beginning of bird migration, makes this workshop one you do not want to miss! While birds are the obvious subject, there are also ample opportunities for landscapes and seascapes along the St. Johns River. Receive hands-on learning with some structured lessons and, of course, lots of help as needed from the instructor.

Digital Photography – One View of a City: Photo Tour Southbank
Join us for a view of your hometown as seen from across the St. Johns River. This workshop will help you take a new look at the city and show you how to incorporate additional subjects like boats, bridges, buildings, and more. From the south side of the river, learn about composition as well as camera techniques to create interesting images that you can take home with you, regardless of the camera you use.

Digital Photography – Photo Safari at Fort Caroline
Explore some of the early history of our area while taking photos of a variety of subjects at Fort Caroline. You will see the fortifications, sights on the St. Johns River, and a short, easy nature trail with exhibits. Learn how to shift attention and adapt camera settings as the subject matter changes. There should be enough variety for any camera and any lens. As with all Photo Safaris, learn about composition as well as camera techniques allowing you to capture and take home views you can enjoy over and over.

Digital Photography – Photo Safari at Kingsley Plantation
Visit an area included in the Timucuan Historic Preserve and explore our local history with a visit to Kingsley Plantation. Gaze at the old slave quarters and let your imagination go, thinking of what it must have been like. Then try to portray those feelings with your images. Many of the sites you’ll see are tailor made for black & white interpretations. Tips will be provided for those interested. As with all Photo Safaris, learn about composition, camera settings, and techniques to set your images apart from the rest.

Digital Photography – Photo Safari at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens
Join us for a full morning of hands-on photography work in the field at the beautiful Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens, a 120-acre urban woodland. We will focus on photographing flora and other landscapes and outdoor images. Both structured lessons and a time to shoot on your own with an expert’s help will guide you through the process to take stunning images of nature. All camera types are welcome. Bring your manuals for reference.

This is a hands–on, in–the–field workshop so bring all the gear you wish to use or want to learn more about. The ‘trip’ begins with a 6-week continuing education study abroad course called “Walking in the Footsteps of St. Francis”.
