Professional Enhancement

Whether you want to enhance your career trajectory, prepare for a new job or expand your skills, the Division of Continuing Education has a program for you. Our course offerings can either help you earn a much-needed certification or enhance your professional skills in multiple careers including leadership, finance, business, or logistics. We also provide education and training opportunities to help veterans and their families transition from military duty to civilian careers. Ascent PDI

Ascent PDI focuses on developing employee self-esteem and confidence, lifelong learning and metacognition, personal and professional core values, and literacy in business culture. The result? Professional employees are less likely to engage in workplace conflict, turnover, and absenteeism and are more motivated and successful in their jobs. We hold afternoon and evening classes to accommodate your schedule.

Content Structure

Ascent PDI is comprised of four courses. You can enroll in the four-course program or in each individual course.

  • The 40-hour program is presented over four virtual live courses
  • Each 10-hour course meets weekly (five sessions at two hours each)
  • Participants are expected to complete one hour of individual learning per course.
  • Business Culture

    Learn the groundwork for exploring professionalism, employer and employee expectations, conflict resolution, teamwork, and other interpersonal skills. You will develop interpersonal skills like leadership, ethical behavior, citizenship, and civic literacy.

  • Socio-Economic Values

    Learn strategies for integrating your personal, community, and professional values and goals in the workplace. You will be presented with various approaches to goal setting, time management, emotional intelligence, and financial literacy so you can take ownership of your career progress.

  • Metacognition

    Learn to identify the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to support your own learning – both within and outside of the workplace. You will work toward developing awareness of your own thoughts, learning styles, and modes of understanding.

    This course provides a framework for further developing self-awareness and self-esteem, which is a critical component of your ability to succeed in the workplace. You will explore concepts like self-acceptance, personal and professional values, goal setting, and career and life visioning.
