Special Education (SPED) and Related Services Minor

The Special Education & Related Services Minor will provide students with foundational knowledge and skills to support individuals with exceptionalities across various school-based and community settings.

This minor will attract students from diverse majors, including early childhood, elementary, and secondary subject areas, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to implement high-leverage practices and research-based strategies that foster a sense of belongingness in a range of learning and work environments.

Expanding recruitment efforts, the minor will serve as a pathway for students interested in working with individuals with exceptionalities (e.g., psychology, counseling), increasing ESE, Deaf Education, Disability Services program visibility and engagement with the broader community. By targeting prospective and current students and partnering with advisors, we can drive enrollment and broaden the impact of ESE, Deaf Education, Disability Services preparation.

EHD4013 Teaching Deaf Disabled & Deaf Multilingual Learners was formerly titled Deafness and Diversity to reflect state mandates to remove diversity from course names and titles (see APC 202508-66). SPA 4302, 4004, 4104, and 4250 are new courses submitted with APC 202508-47, a new minor in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Students must earn a "C" grade or higher and an overall 2.5 GPA in the minor.
