Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Microcertificate
The Exceptional Student Education Graduate micro-certificate is designed to provide students with foundational knowledge and skills needed to support learners with exceptionalities across various educational settings. Two courses required for this certificate include EEX5075 Teaching Students with Exceptionalities in General Education Settings and EEX5665 Classroom and Behavior Management.
EEX 5075 Teaching Students with Exceptionalities in General Education Settings provides background knowledge on special education laws, disability categories, student characteristics, collaboration and evidence-based instructional strategies for teaching students with disabilities in general education settings. EEX5665 Classroom and Behavior Management is focused on developing knowledge and skills in behavior and classroom management for learners with exceptionalities. Activities in this course include learning how to design and maintain safe learning environments, implementing evidence-based behavioral interventions, analyzing environmental influences on behavior, and examining the legal and ethical foundations of behavior management.
Together, these courses allow general education teachers, parents, and other professionals working with students with disabilities the foundation needed to be better prepared to meet the diverse needs of all learners. In addition, graduates will be prepared to apply evidence-based instructional, behavioral, and collaborative practices to create inclusive, supportive, and effective learning environments for students with exceptionalities.
Students must earn a "C" grade or higher and an overall 2.5 GPA.
