UNF Emeritus faculty member awarded Fulbright Scholar for Fall 2026

Dr. Terry Cavanaugh, Professor Emeritus of Instructional Technology in the Silverfield College of Education and Human Services at the University of North Florida, has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar for the Fall 2026 semester. He will be based at The Maldives National University in its Faculty of Education.

Dr. Cavanaugh has worked as a Fulbright Specialist for several years, taking on short-term international assignments to address educational needs abroad. His most recent trip was to Tuvalu, the least visited country in the world, where he helped improve their science education program.

As a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Cavanaugh will be a faculty member at The Maldives National University, where he will be teaching, consulting, advising and working with students in educational technology, instructional design and related fields. His role will also include teaching classes, guest lecturing, conducting research and collaborating with faculty throughout the semester.

The Fulbright Scholar Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, promotes international educational exchange. Fulbright Scholars receive grant support that covers travel, living expenses, select costs and health benefits during their appointments.

Dr. Cavanaugh expects to be the only Fulbright Scholar going to the Maldives this year. He looks forward to collaborating with colleagues in the Faculty of Education while contributing to international educational exchange through teaching, research and service.

Dr. Cavanaugh's appointment reflects the lasting impact of Silverfield College faculty and its tradition of advancing education through global partnerships, innovation and international collaboration.
