What drivers with disabilities need to know about parking at UNF

Parking guidelines

The Parking and Transportation system is based on a virtual permit and license plate recognition system to facilitate parking and enforcement. This system requires you to register your license plate to your purchased permit and the license plate becomes the virtual permit. For the program to be efficient, all vehicles must park "nose-in" in order for our enforcement tag recognition cameras to quickly scan the tags.

If you purchased a valid UNF virtual parking permit (Visitor, Annual or Term) it will be linked up to your license plate and all you have to display is your state-issued disability parking placard to park in a disabled parking space. Please be aware that all disability spaces located in the core of campus require a minimum of a Blue parking permit.

If you have a State issued disability placard and need a visitor parking permit, please either download the free mobile phone Flowbird app or visit one of the following drive-up Pay-by-Plate kiosks, located on this map. The main drive-up kiosk is #101, located by Parking Services (Building 52) and sells $5 visitor permits. This permit allows parking in both Blue and Gray Lots. Please refer to the above-mentioned link to verify the designated Blue and Gray Lots.

Shuttle service

The shuttle buses are equipped with wheelchair ramps and are ADA compliant.

If you need special accommodations, please contact Shuttle Management at (904) 620-5718 for assistance. We will attempt to make all reasonable accommodations. For additional information please visit the shuttle link and refer to 'The Osprey Transit' section.

Temporary impairment

UNF temporary disability permits may be requested through Parking & Transportation Services building (52); the first building on the right of the I-295 campus entrance. Parking Services can issue a temporary UNF disability permit for up to thirty (30) days for the following reasons:

  • With a physician's note requesting the ability to park in disability spaces.
  • At the request of UNF Student Accessibility Center (SAC) or Student Health Services.
  • With an obvious injury such as a cast on a leg or ankle.

All exception requests for a "Blue" permit based on medical issues will need to be cleared through the Student Accessibility Center (SAC) located at the Tom and Betty Petway Hall (Building 57, Room 1500) 904-620-2769.

If the SAC approves the exception, then Parking Services will honor the decision and sell or upgrade to a "Blue" permit. If the person no longer requires the temporary State disability parking permit, the person may downgrade back to a "Gray" permit and can recover the cost difference.

All requests for a temporary disability parking permit for more than 30 days are advised to apply for the State of Florida disability permit. To park in a valid disability space, please make sure your purchased permit matches the correct permit to the Lot category (along with displaying the disability placard). For example: If a person parks on the 1st floor of a parking garage in a disability parking space then they should have purchased a "Blue" permit category and display their placard.

If a person with a State issued disability placard has a Housing permit, they may park in any disability spaces on campus.
