UNF MedNexus and HCA South Atlantic Division have partnered to launch an innovative career development program that encourages students to explore a wide range of healthcare professions early in their academic journey. This unique opportunity pairs meaningful employment with structured academic and career support.
About HCA Florida Memorial Hospital
HCA Florida Memorial Hospital is a 454-bed acute care facility with a strong 55-year history of quality care in Northeast Florida. Founded in 1969 by physicians and community leaders, the hospital is staffed by over 3,400 employees and 900 physicians. It is known for combining cutting-edge medical services with compassion and a commitment to patient safety.
HCA Healthcare operates 184 hospitals and approximately 2,000 care sites—including ERs, urgent care centers, and physician clinics—across 21 U.S. states and the United Kingdom.

Program Overview
This program allows students to:
- Begin paid employment at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital
- Receive full-time or part-time employee benefits (health, dental, 401K, and more)
- Qualify for tuition reimbursement through HCA’s employee education program
- Explore real-world healthcare career options
- Receive structured guidance from UNF academic and career advisors
Eligibility Requirements
Ideal Candidates will:
- Advising: Meet with you academic advisor to determine eligibility.
- Apply: Submit your Application .
- Screening: Applications are reviewed by UNF MedNexus staff.
- Interviews: Qualified students will be invited to interview with HCA leadership.
- Onboarding: Accepted students will complete onboarding and begin employment the following semester.
How to Apply

- You will be notified by email if selected for an interview.
- Interviews with HCA leadership will be scheduled based on availability.
- Accepted students will begin employment in the following semester.
Sample Pathways Positions

Patient Care Technician
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist with daily living activities (bathing, grooming, and feeding)
- Monitor and record patients' vital signs
- Provide emotional support and companionship
- Help maintain a clean, safe care environment
- Communicate with families and medical teams

Patient Transporter
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Transport patients between departments (radiology, surgery, discharge, etc.)
- Safely assist patients in and out of wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds
- Coordinate transport with nursing and medical staff
- Follow safety protocols and hospital procedures
- Provide calm, reassuring interaction during transport
