Prohibited Items

Dear graduate and guest,

Below are important safety recommendations and security protocols for the upcoming commencement ceremonies.

The University has implemented security protocols to provide an additional level of security for our campus community and guests during the commencement ceremonies. All graduates, faculty, staff, vendors and guests will be screened by metal detectors. Guests are asked to refrain from carrying bags with them, unless necessary, to ensure an expedited entry process for everyone. Bags will be subject to search upon entry into the UNF Arena. Please plan accordingly to ensure adequate time for such procedures and arrive before your start time. Below is a list of items and activities that are prohibited at this event.

  • Any firearms, edged weapons including pocket knives, replicas and keychain pepper spray
  • Smoking, vaping or tobacco use
  • Pets unless clearly marked service animals
  • Bull horns or artificial noisemakers
  • Drones
  • Laser pointers or light pointers
  • Unapproved pamphlets, handouts, advertisements
  • Skateboards, roller blades, roller shoes, etc.
  • Backpacks and bags, to include large camera bags (See below for bag exceptions)

The following bags are allowed:

  • Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.”
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
  • Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand (no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”), with or without a handle or strap.
  • Any medically necessary items.

Again, please continue to monitor your email. Event information can be found on the UNF Commencement webpage as well as the UNF Graduation Facebook and Twitter pages. Should you have any additional questions or concerns, you may reach out to the Commencement Office staff at

We look forward to honoring our graduates!
