COEHS Associate Dean receives Katherine M. Kasten Doctoral Advising and Mentoring Award

Dr. Daniel Dinsmore, Associate Dean of Research, External Funding and Faculty Development of The College of Education and Human Services, is this year’s recipient of the Katherine M. Kasten Doctoral Advising and Mentoring Award.

Each year, the UNF educational leadership doctoral program recognizes a faculty member with this award, which seeks to acknowledge Dr. Katherine M. Kasten’s legacy and highlights her innovative, excellent and effective advising and mentoring over the years at UNF. Dr. Kasten, fondly known as Kathe, joined UNF in 1988 and served as dean of the College of Education and Human Services from 1995 to 2004.

Dr. Dinsmore began teaching in the UNF doctoral program in the Spring of 2013, where he has passionately instructed courses in Quantitative Research Methods and Learning and Instruction Across the Lifespan. Since 2015, he has demonstrated his commitment to scholarly mentorship by chairing 12 completed dissertations and co-chairing an additional three. He has advised students in multiple disciplines including physical therapy, applied behavior analysis, PK-16 school-based learning and assessment, and faculty research productivity. Throughout his journey, Dr. Dinsmore has been fortunate to cultivate collaborative relationships with his students, resulting in the publication of five (and ongoing) co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous conference presentations. Notably, under his guidance, five recipients have been honored with the prestigious Mulkeen Dissertation Award.

Mentoring and advising doctoral students remains among the most fulfilling aspects of his job and he hopes to continue to work with curious students who are dedicated to advancing generalizable knowledge and enhancing the well-being of society.
