Selective Admission Criteria - Engineering

Declare a major in Engineering

All new students who wish to declare a major in Engineering must complete the courses below, based on their intended engineering major, with a grade of “C” or better. These required courses will hereafter be referred to as the Selective Admission Criteria. Below are Selective Admission guidelines. You may direct any questions or requests for clarification to your UNF advisor or email Engineering@unf.edu.

First-Time College Students

First-time college Students will work with their First-Year Advisor to satisfy the Selective Admission Criteria for their intended engineering major, ideally within their first 30 college credits. Students who do not complete these requirements cannot declare a computing major and need to declare another major at UNF.

Transfer Students

Transfer Students should have satisfied the Selective Admission Criteria before applying to UNF. Students who have not met the criteria will be advised to enroll in another major and may work toward completing the Selective Admission Criteria while attending UNF.

Existing UNF Students

Existing UNF Students who want to change their major to one offered by the School of Engineering must have the Selective Admission Criteria satisfied when requesting the change in major. Please note that change in major requests may require additional approvals and does not guarantee admittance into the program, particularly if more than 90 college credits have already been earned or if the new major will lead to excess hours.

Selective Admission Criteria

  • PHY2048C Calculus-Based Physics I Lab (4 credits)
  • CHM2045 General Chemistry I (3 credits)
  • CHM2045L General Chemistry I Lab*

*CHM2045L is not required for those wishing to declare Electrical Engineering as their major.
