It's February and it's been cold!  Get excited and warm up to this month's School of Computing Newletter.  Here we welcome new members of our academic community and share key events and milestones shaping the semester.  From research to recognitions and conference participation to student success and engagement opportunities, these updates reflect your School’s continued focus on academic excellence, collaboration, and real-world impact at UNF.  Swoop!

Happy New Year! Here we highlight spring semester dates including classes resuming January 7th and the Computing Advisory Board meeting January 9th, faculty achievements such as Dr. Dutta’s ICAART 2026 acceptance, Dr. Niu’s IEEE Access publication, and Dr. Liu’s Mayo Clinic AI collaboration with internship opportunities, new faculty Dr. Brett Benda joining us with expertise in HCI, VR, and game studies, and a spotlight on Osprey Security leaders Alex Ramudo and Cody Copple sharing their cybersecurity experiences and advice to dive into clubs and hands-on opportunities.

Before we're off for the holidays, we will celebrate recent achievements in this edition of the December 2025 School of Computing Newsletter, including research acceptances in Elsevier’s Internet of Things journal and at IEEE/CVF WACV 2026, a recap of the NestforAwhile 2025 AI-Augmented Coding Challenge with eight student teams, UPE Scholarship awards to Jacob Aaron Tanchak and Shirley Chen, and congratulations to the oral and poster winners from the School of Computing Symposium. These updates showcase the continued excellence and collaboration within our program.

The November 2025 School of Computing Newsletter highlights recent faculty publications accepted in ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology and IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, welcomes new instructor Jeremiah Doody with his background in game development and AI education, shares upcoming community events such as the Bytes of Gratitude Potluck, and offers a remembrance of Computer Science student Hunter Ford and the positive impact he had on our community. Dr. Zornitza Prodanoff conducted quantum computing research at Université Côte d’Azur in France, while Dr. Swapnoneel Roy’s cybersecurity paper was accepted to IEEE MILCOM 2025, and Dr. Karthikeyan Umapathy’s study on Florida’s digital divide will appear at ISCAP 2025. The School of Computing welcomes Dr. Yongzhao Wang as its newest faculty member. Senior Emily Delaere, president of SWAT, continues empowering women in computing at UNF.

The School of Computing’s September 2025 newsletter spotlights new staff members, faculty achievements, and student success stories. Readers will meet Administrative Secretary Contessa Michalkiewicz and Administrative Specialist Gabriela Gutierrez, celebrate faculty research accepted at leading conferences, and learn how recent graduate Andrew Shea applied his UNF computing education to modernize a school IT system. The issue also highlights upcoming events, including Osprey for a Day and the STEM & Construction Career Fair.

The School of Computing welcomes new director Dr. Nan Niu and highlights the exceptional research achievements of graduate student Iliya Kulbaka in the August 2025 newsletter. The newsletter features important faculty meeting announcements, upcoming advisory board discussions, and showcases Kulbaka's eight published papers on autonomous robotics and gas distribution mapping. Dr. Niu shares his vision for student success and research excellence while emphasizing his commitment to building connections within the academic and industry communities.

Creating Intelligent Robots for Farmers

In agriculture today, robots are bringing precision automation to farming.  Led by Dr. Ayan Dutta, Assistant Professor of Computing and backed by a grant from the National Science Foundation, the team will develop software that will drive this technology.

Steve Wozniak of Apple fame gave a lecture as part of the UNF Presidential Lecture Series. Mr. Wozniak met with Computing and Engineering students in a reception.
