Excuse Note Policy

Our Health Care providers are frequently asked by our students/patients to write medical excuse notes for classes and/or work. Students frequently have medical conditions, psychological conditions, illnesses or injuries that require them to be away from the classroom or workplace, or affect their ability to perform optimally on class work or exams.

The Student Health Services center can provide a medical excuse note only if our providers are involved in the medical care of a student who they feel will need to be absent from class for medical reasons.

Please note: Our medical providers cannot be expected to write excuse notes for illnesses or problems for which they never provided care.

If you received care for your illness or injury from a private physician, you should request your excuse note from that medical provider rather than from Student Health Services.

Please understand that acceptance of excuse notes is solely at the discretion of the professor.
