Health Science Interdisciplinary Health Studies BSH

Program Mission Statement

Healthcare is a growing field and employers are increasingly seeking graduates with an interdisciplinary skill set to function in a variety of roles. This program introduces students to health behavior and management, legal and ethical issues, and environmental influences on health while offering the flexibility to design an individual program based on a student’s unique career goals and interests. Additionally, students have the opportunity to complete prerequisites for graduate studies and complete a minor in a program of their choice.

Student Learning Outcomes

Graduates will be able:

Critical Thinking Skills

  • Students will create a substantial, interdisciplinary, original work using sound evidence
  • Students will transfer knowledge and skills gained from general and specialized studies to new settings and problems
  • Students will critically and systematically apply interdisciplinary research methods and contrasting theories in practice
  • Students will demonstrate the complexity of problems and identify different perspectives from which problems and questions can be viewed 

Communication Skills

  • Students will create a substantial, interdisciplinary, original work using sound evidence
  • Students will transfer knowledge and skills gained from general and specialized studies to new settings and problems

Assessment Approach

Student learning will be assessed at the college and department levels by course assignments and projects in the culminating capstone course. Additionally, student learning will be further assessed through assignments and evaluation from capstone mentors.
