Active-Duty Service Members

As an active-duty service member, pursuing your education is an investment in both your military and civilian career goals. The Military & Veterans Resource Center. (MVRC) is committed to supporting your academic success by helping you navigate Tuition Assistance (TA), VA education benefits, and university processes. Whether you are stationed locally or studying online from anywhere in the world, our team is here to help you make the most of your educational opportunities. Below is a list of common benefits you are eligible to receive.
  • Tuition Assistance
    • Who it's for:

      • Active-duty military members

      What you get:

      • Covers 100% of tuition (fees and books are paid by the student to the school).
      • Maximum of $250 per credit hour.
      • Maximum of $4,500 per fiscal year.

      How do you get it:

      • Apply on your branch's education portal

      Note: Payments are made directly to the school.

  • Tuition Assistance "Top Up"

    Who it's for: Active-duty members using Tuition Assistance

    What you get:  

    • Covers the difference between Tuition Assistance and full tuition
    • Uses a portion of GI Bill® entitlement

    How do you get it:

     

  • Chapter 33 Post 9/11

    Who it's for: Veterans, active-duty, and dependents (with transferred benefits); must have served at least 90 days after 9/10/2001

    What you get:  

    • Tuition & fees (up to full in-state rate at public schools)
    • Monthly housing allowance (BAH)
    • Book stipend (up to $1,000/year)
    • Yellow Ribbon for out-of-state/private costs

    How do you get it:

  • Chapter 30 Montgomery GI BillĀ® (MGIB)

    Who it's for: Veterans who paid into the MGIB during active duty

    What you get:  

    • Monthly payments for education sent directly to the student. (Nothing is paid to the school.)
      • Students are responsible for paying tuition and fees within 60 days of the beginning of the term.
    • No tuition, housing, or book stipend
    • Must pay tuition out-of-pocket and get reimbursed

Military-Connect Scholarships

Also, take time to complete an application through UNF Scholarship Universe.  The MVRC has scholarships for active duty, veterans, and family members.
