Benefits of Joining ESG
Eta Sigma Gamma is a National Health Education Honorary providing public health and other students with opportunities for experiential learning, networking, and professional development in the field of health. Our members also have access to the national chapter which includes opportunities for publications, travel, scholarships, and awards including the National Undergraduate Major of the Year Award and Scholarship Key Award at Initiation.
All members receive a certificate of membership, t-shirt, and official pin included with their chapter dues. Members who have been active for the two consecutive semesters leading up to their graduation are also eligible to receive green and hold honorary regalia to wear at Commencement.
Minimum Requirements and Initiation Process
- Students may apply at any point during their degree program, but must be active for at least two consecutive semesters to receive honorary regalia
- Students must be health science majors or other health-related disciplines which follow CHES or CEPH competencies
- Students must be upper level taking at least one class at the 3000-4000 level or graduate coursework
- There is no G.P.A. requirement for joining ESG at this time
- To become a member students should complete the following steps:
- Complete an application (only accepted during Fall and Spring semesters)
- Submit the $75 application fee via cash or check made out to Eta Sigma Gamma to Professor Schedin's Office on the 3rd floor of the Brooks College of Health, Office #3013. If she is not in you can leave an envelope with your name under the door
- Once you have submitted the application and application fee you will receive a confirmation email and next steps via your UNF email inbox
- Each Spring we initiate approximately 70 students into the honorary at an official initiation ceremony with family and friends to celebrate our new members current and future achievementsGeneral Body Meetings
To be considered an active member and receive green and gold honorary regalia to wear at graduation student students must earn at least 6 points each semester, see point breakdown below:
- Beginning in Fall 2025, we will be using a point system for members to remain in active status. All members must earn at minimum 6 points per semester, see minimum for each area below:
- 1 Outreach Points
- 1 Service Point
- 1 Professional Development Point
- 1 Social Point
- 1 Research Point (Submit at least one article/piece of work to the Pre-Professional Community Health Chronicle (PPCHC) per semester)
- 1 Membership Point (All members are required to attend at least one GBM per semester)
- Each semester we have multiple opportunities during the week, days, nights, and weekends to meet these requirements. We are also willing to work with members who have busier schedules if they are expectational students who wish to be a member of the Honorary but might need flexibility due to outside commitments.
- Students who go above and beyond requirements will be awarded special recognitions and incentives throughout the semesters and at the Initiation ceremony which includes monetary awards for active members.
We are an Award-winning Chapter as well! We have won several awards including:
- National Chapter Excellence Award 2019-2020
- National Chapter Advocacy Activity Award 2022-2023
- National Chapter Teaching Activity Award 2024-2025
