Department of Communication

Overview

Department of Communication is dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge about human and mass mediated communication processes through high-quality teaching, scholarship, and service to the community. We offer one major program, the Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication, and two minor programs: Communication Studies and Mass Communication.

Major Concentrations

Advertising

Development of research-based creative strategies, ad development, and execution in integrated advertising campaigns.

Public Relations

Developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external publics including the larger society.

Journalism

Stresses writing and reporting skills with the fast-changing professional practices of print and online media journalism.

Electronic Media

Emphasizes the concepts and professional practices of video content production and video journalism.

Minor Programs

Communication Studies

Explores human communication on a number of levels including mass and public communication.

Mass Communication

Provides an overview of the processes and influences of the mass media.
