Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences, the largest of the five colleges that make up the University of North Florida. The College provides instruction in the liberal arts, which provides the broad intellectual foundation for in-depth study in all majors of study and thus constitutes the core of the university. Our talented and committed faculty provide instruction in the general education program, through diverse majors for undergraduates, to a variety of graduate programs. UNF’s General Education program is housed in the College and provides students with opportunities to acquire and reinforce key intellectual competencies that are the foundations of the 21st-century skills necessary for success beyond college: writing effectively, thinking critically, as well as analyzing and reasoning quantitatively, and understanding how to use the scientific method. The College of Arts and Sciences consists of fifteen academic units and houses a variety of centers and programs. We offer undergraduate and graduate majors in a broad range of disciplines including the arts and humanities, as well as natural and social sciences and interdisciplinary studies. Students have numerous experiential learning opportunities, including student-faculty research experiences, study-abroad activities, and internships. Reflecting UNF’s status as a Carnegie Community Engaged institution, the College is proud of our collaboration with community partners from the local to the global level. These curricular and co-curricular activities help students to apply classroom learning to real-world contexts preparing them for successful careers in the arts, education, government, law, business, health, media, communication, and technology sectors to name a few. Our alumni are key players and leaders in Jacksonville and surrounding Northeast Florida communities.
